We put a 1999 4.0 ovm in a 2001 ranger. Removed a bad stock ocm. We used all 2001 wiring harness and computer, basically just changed motors. The motor runs with the air mass sensor unplugged but stalls on take off. We didn't see any difference's in the wiring harness but there may be. Does anyone here have any info. that could help me out in getting the engine running correct.
Thanks in advance,

wait a second

You removed a 01 4.0L SOHC (overhead cam) and replaced it with a 99 OHV (Pushrod) 4.0L, keeping the 01 computer, wiring, etc?

this could be interesting if that is true

I have seen a SOHC run with a OHV computer but have no idea what it takes to make a OHV run with a SOIHC computer

You will likely have to disable the computers signal from the camshaft sensor.....the big difference from teh SOHC and OHV as far as the computer is concerned is the addition of a second cam sensor mounted on the valve cover, the OHV only has a CAM sensor on the rear of the upper intake

You should have a plug on that 01 wiring harness that is not going anywhere, near the drivers side valve cover I believe

Was this a very hard swap to do as we are thinking about doing the same thing.

it is now! LOL

You may need the 99 computer and attach it to the 01 wiring harness BUT also make the required changes at the 110 pin computer connector to ensure it matches the 99 PCM

Is this truck an auto or stick?

or You may want to talk to Henson performance on this forum about flashing that 01 computer to run the OHV engine, possibly....I dont know if it is possible!!
