Im looking to do an engine swap from my v6 to a v8. Right now im leaning towards a ford 302. What engines will fit in a 92 explorer, along with transmissions? What else other then the tranny and engine would i need when doing the swap? Thanks

you will probbally have to change the diff and the front suspension and radiator as well

if you find an 87-93 mustang (whole car if possible) it can be quite easy, ....

i hear people talking about splicing 1/2 of a 5.0 harness into the 4.0's harness, WHY!!! just get the entire 5.0 harness and replace the 4.0s with eh 5.0s along with computer and it bolts in!, next part is fitting the 5.0 in the engine bay, which is easy if you either buy the motor mounts and getr a thunderbird heater box ( cause the 4.0's is too big under the hood and you will have clearance problems. then you can either use an t-5 manual or an aod automatic that will basically fit under where the a4ld was with a little bit of hammering. advanced adapters makes a piece that allows you to use the factory t- case and front drive shaft which runs about 550n bucks though, o and you will have to get the drive shaft shortened 2'' ish hope i helped email me @ holshubby@msn.com for any more ?s id be glad to try and help

Wrong.

So to my understanding from these posts, The mustang 5.0 engine will fit in with proper engine mounts, and a thunderbird heater box. A t-5 aod tranny will fit but with some hammering. Also i will have to have the drive shaft shortened 2". How is that done? Thanks for all the info. Im looking at starting the project this summer.

The best donor engine obviously is the 96+ Explorer 5.0.......

first off crankcase, why use obd II? Especially in a obd I vehicle? The good theing about obd II is that every time the mil is on you have to pay ford or someone with a genysis scan tool to see what it is , unless you know what your doing which a lot of people dont. second thats a lot more work i.e : drilling holes in exhaust for the 4 o2 sensors, setting up the DLC (data link connector under the dash)

It WOULD make more sence to do an obd I swap. because all you do is swap harnesses and engines. not to mention obd I is just as good and has half the sensors/ wires. also a lot of modifications will illuminate the MIL because everything on obd II is computer read and thats more work down the road for adding mods.

and no there is no fabrication that needs to be to the front driveline , you can buy and oil pan off somewhere ive seen ( cant remember the site) or you can fabricate one if you can weld. advance adapters makes parts to keep the factory t-case and shaft. they make that for the aod and the t-5.

OBVIOUSLY
