Unnatural engine swap...

yup my dad has a huge NOS bottle and kit he purchased years ago for his RX-7, he never used it.
So I was looking at it thinking that would be cool on the boat, joking around right?

Well a little research and I find out NOS goes on a marine engine quite well since it already has forged internals...mine is a 2 barrel carbed 4.3L so adding NOS to it is a snap!! I just might....hahaha

Alright, back to my engine, pretty much the whole thing is shot now...Daily driver, NOT street racing it, the trans is shifting VERY wrong, the CHECK ENGINE light came on, and it idles at about 500RPM...driving...not good, I know. Now, heres my question, where can I get a new engein/trans cheap-ish? Like 2 grand or so. I said earlyer, the actual swap would be free, because I know people around here willing to do swaps, + the community college im going to be going to has an auto shop, or last choice, my uncle has a Large lift, able to raise a UPS truck, in his garage, he fully swapped in a JEGS engine in his Stang. I can use the old parts off of my engine now, so buying new ones for a 4.0 wont cost anything, as well as the electronics. All of the other parts, I know people who know owners of companies. K&N, Edlebrock, etc. SO slightly discounted prices are available there. BUT what do you recommend for me to do about the engine deal? And buying a new car is out, im 17, and parents said NO to getting a new one. (or else I'd be in some rice burner forum talking about ricing up an 98 Eclipse fast)

What motor/trans are you looking for? Are you keeping 4wd? Like mentioned before several times you should drop the unnatural idea and just buy a salvage v8 Explorer. I have seen several for under 2k. Then you swap woul dbe relatively free after the truck purchase. Swapping in any other motor and tranny (and all the stuff that goes with it that doesn't get thought about) is going to cost a lot more than you think.

dude you gotta re read this thread, we alread talked about what drivetrain you need

in your 99 truck a 96-2001 Ford Explorer 5.0L V8 drivetrain will BOLT IN
In CA you may be restricted to using the 99-2001 years for emissions reasons

You can do this on a $2000-3000 budget depending on finding the ENTIRE complete donor

Ok...so...With the swap here, what else will I need? (im actually in need of this new engine now, not just thinking about it, mines about to go out) Engine, tranmission, (yes I want to keep the 4WD, its actually AWD if that makes a difference, with Overdrive. Any wireing, belts, things of that nature, I can just take off of my old one, do I need anything else? And I live in Springfield right, there arent too many places around with scrap explorers... especially of my year, where around here are good places to get "quality" parts?

Thanks

auction house, buy the entire vehicle if you want to save $$ and time
Junk yard, or classifieds.

You need EVERYTHING, from radiator to driveshafts and exhaust

the 5.0L explorer only came with an AWD t case so you have to convert it to be 4x4 later and no your V6 transfer case will not work

Try the search button this has been discussed 10000 times

So...If I bought a FULL 1999 5.0L explorer, totaled from like the rear, all engine components work, how much would that run for? About

$1000-5000 DEPENDING ON YOUR AREA and where you get it
I wouldnt pay more then $1500-1800 depending on miles and damage

agree. Man these guys really do know what they are talking about. Youre not gunna get an 11second explorer without trying damn hard. My friend has tried 12k woth of damn hard to get his 95 eclipse gsx to run 11s, let alone an explorer. Listen to all these guys, the v8 swap will be fine. And if you really wanna "smoke" that mustang, take him off roading :D , after all, it is a SUV. Comming from one college kid to another, the v8 is a great engine if you take the time to read up on it (which it sounds like you need to do instead of talking about "supers" all the time), youll like the bang for the buck, and as someone said earlier, ya cant compare apples to oranges.
