I was previously led to believe that a 2.3L would fit my 4.0L trans...
I have the 4x4 5-speed behind my 4.0 OHV engine. The engine has been removed & disassembled... The block & crank are good, but both heads are cracked. Since I'd be spending over $1100 to rebuild the 6- I was hoping to stick a more fuel efficient 2.3L Turbo engine out of a Merkur I was planing on buying... But I don't think that the bell-housings are the same!!! Was there a different Mazda 5-speed 4x4 tranny used on rangers with the 2.3 & 2.5? My Transmission doesn't have a removable bell- it is all one housing. What gives? What would I need to do this swap? Any help given will be appreciated!
