At first my engine started today with a kinda fan hitting something sound. It was not the fan or the fanbelt b/c I checked. It shounded like it was under or in the engine itself. I had to drive it home today. That sound went away but when I acceleratted or gassed it. It would then make a rather loud clank sound once or twice. Then when I was stopped it idled very rouphly, Right now I am trying to start it and it wont even start it just goes. veeeeee,,,veeeee. Like it wants to but cant. Any ideas?

Flywheel broke maybe?

Does the motor actually turn over? i dont understand veeee veeee. If the motor turns over then it could be numerous things wrong with it. Was the vehicle sluggish before it died, when you accelerated? Like it was running on 4 or 5 cylinders. Did it backfire at all? Did it have a deisel sound to it? Was there any knocking sounds when it was running? Check and see if all your plug wires are on it. If they are, maybe they need to be replaced. Check your oil next, look for any metal particles in the oil, gold coloring. Look for a drastic discoloration in the oils color too. Rather than dark brown or black, look for a cream color, cream color is bad.

If it does not turn over, is the starter turning and they flywheel not? Check the bendix on the starter? If the gear teeth are stripped off then it will just make that whirring sound, and will not engage the flywheel.

I'm with Alec. The clanking you heard was probably it cracking out, and catching on the rough edges. The sound you hear is probably the starter turning over whats left of the flexplate. I had this same thing happen to me.

Yup, me too.

Thanks you guyus. It is the flywheel/starter.
