I recently purchased my 93 XLT 4.0L. I want to start using synthetic oils and fluids in it. I've been told that switching to synthetic with my milage (79,000) will only clog the filter. Is there anyway to cure this? I've seen talk about envirolution, but I don't have broadband thus I cannot visit their site to find someone who will perform this. Any ideas how to address this?

Thats pure, unadultrated BS. Many switch to full synthetic with more miles onthe ticker than that.

Good luck, you will love sunthetic.

Thanks, would it still be a good idea for an envirolution flush? I'm not so interested in mods but long lasting efficiency. Any other techniques or treatments I can give the drivetrain to extend the life?

Al, your language sucks, s$$t man you need to take some classes,KG thats Bull s$$t, syns will be fine, no flush is required, will not tolerate BS Fuuging language, we need to be kind
Love, conehead:)

You need no flush, just make the switch.

I noticed you have a '93. I did the switch to my '92. Since I heard a lot of arguing both ways about switching to synthetics and clogging filters, I did a gradual switch. I now have 3 quarts Mobil 1 5/30 and the rest is Mobil Drive Clean 5/30. Engine is doing fine, but the bad thing is that now it's leaking like hell! Big mess on the barn floor made of really expensive oil. It's said because synthetic molecules are all identical to each other and "find" leaks easier. Doesn't actually eat the seals or anything. I guess the switch didn't work here, so I've been topping up (yeah, it's leaking bad) with name brand conventional. Next time I change oil/filter I think I'll just stick with Mobil Drive Clean (synthetic blend) and see what happens.

I have no problems switching to pure synthetic. It does find leaks. If you are woried about it run 500-miles and change the filter. Then cut it open and see for yourself it the rumors are truth or urban legend.

As above, it's BS! Drain your engine, replace the filter and refill with synthetic. No flush, no clogging.
