Erasing Trouble Codes

I have a 2006 Explorer Sport Trac, I had trouble code PO128, changed thermostat and it fixed the problem. Now I need to clear the code, is there a way to do this without a scan tool? Thanks

Disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, that should do the trick.

Some codes are soft codes some are hard codes meaning soft code will reset with battery disconnect hard code you need a scanner.
