i was reading somewhere that the escape is based off of the ranger platform. is this true? if so, how come you never see anyone talking about swapping parts like u see with rangers and xs. i always thought the escape was built off of a smaller platform.

the escape isnt off a ranger.... if anything, its probably more closely related to a focus......

the ranger never used front and rear CVs and was never a 4x2 front wheel drive

Isn't the Escape a Mazda Tribute?? Or vice versa ? Any one had experience with them?

the ford escape and the mazda tribute are the same vehicle just as a ford explorer is a mercury mountaineer

see, i figured the escape is off a much smaller platform, cuz it really doesnt have the same layout at all as a ranger or x. i guess whoever wrote that artice didnt bother to research their facts

Is it built by Mazda or Ford ? My wife drives my EX quite a bit but wants something smaller to replace her '98 Escort ZX2 (173,000 miles). I haven't researched the Escape much yet. Are they any good?

the mazda tribute is an escape they are both built by ford..... just as an explorer is a mountaineer, just as an expedition is a navigator.... the old mazda navajo was a rebadged explorer sport.....

same company......

the escapes are nice for a cute ute...... if no modifing is planned (although you can lift it slightly;)) then its fine....

The escapes are nice vehicles if you don't need the cargo space. I rode with a friend in his and it was gray with black interior w/black leather, premium sound (w/subwoofer), AWD which can be locked into 4hi. Sporty vehicle, not sure on the motor size but it could get up and go pretty good.

It's built by Ford with a Mazda engine.

speaking of how weak the escape is, when i heard the "new" bronco would be a weaker and cheaper version of the escape, i thought "is there a suv thats cheaper and weaker than an escape" then i rembered...the geo tracker . its a shame that ford is going to shame a brand name that evokes images of power and ruggedness with a POS that is, in my opinion in the same category as the ****tiest vehicle known to man: the tracker :(

Being an explorer fan and owning one, the term "weaker and cheaper" does not quite fit the Escape. Any V6 Escape would easily outgun your X in any performance contest. The only setback to the Escape is that there is less cargo space. I have a V8 X and I would not buy an Escape, however, I would not dog it like that. I like the way it drives. Just my opinion.

having ridden in an escape i can say that the explorer has better acceleration than the escape. it has a stronger transfercase and i don't think that the escape can go 130mph:D (before my lift)

The Escape is OK, its just a different kind of "SUV". I would take one over a Freelander, anyway. It isn't all that well designed ergonomecially, though, and little things might bug you. A friend's parents bought one and its an auto "on the tree". The shift lever sits right in front of the stereo controls in D.

I dunno you can get an escape with 200 hp from the factory I think it would probly haul ass somewhat

horsepower sells cars torque wins waces

Where's the redline on those things? I've seen no redline up to 8k. Can it even go that high!?

comparing the escape and the explorer is comparing apples and oranges. my wife has an 3.6 liter 6 cylinder and it's fast...especially compared to my 4.0l 6.

but the bottom line is the explorer is a truck and the escape is a car with awd.
