OK, dont bash on me guys.. I dont have an explorer but i do need some help from you explorer guys. I have a 93 wrangler that i am building up. I am swapping out my rear axle for one of your great 8.8s. It is way stronger than my dana 35. I have heard mixed messages on the gear ratios. I am looking for a rear axle from a 95 or later (want disk brakes) and ive heard that ford released a tow package with 4.10 gears, but ive also heard that the lowest gear they've produced is 3.73, anyone able to clear this up for me?

They made explorers with 4.10's 95+. Most all Explorers 95+ with 16" rims had 4.10 gears (look at explorer sports with 16's).

ok.. explorer sports with the 16 inch rims...... good deal.
Now to find one locally! thanks for helping me out!

sorry, another question. Most likely i will just find the axle sitting there. Anyone know the code that will be on the axle when i see it? Or even the code on the door if its still there?

The axle will have a tag hanging from a diff cover bolt, on the second line it will have the gear ratio stamped on it (3L73 = 3.73 LS; 4 10 = 4.10 open; 4L10 = 4.10 LS, and so on)

Door codes:

Explorer 43 Open 3200 3.08
41 Open 3200 3.27
42 Open 4.10
46 Open 3.73
45 Open 3200 3.55
D4 Limited Slip 3200 3.73
D2 Limited Slip 4.10
L73 Limited Slip 3.73

Thanks Alec, i was looking for that :chug:

cool, thanks a lot guys
