i always thought the rangers were the same as the explorers as far as suspension and all that goes, i just argued with a guy on the phone trying to order parts and he told me the rangers were independent suspension which...im pretty sure hes wrong.
i was looking at this, an apparently im wrong according to him so can someone tell me if this lift kit will work?

well, I can't make heads or tails of what that picture is in your link, but then again, it says "The actual kit may vary from the kit pictured."

Also, in the rear an Explorer is Spring under axle, Rangers are Spring over axle, so that's going to be a big difference.

...As for the Rangers, the Dana 35 was not introduced till the 1990 thru 1997 models...Before then it was a Dana 28...

...They used to advertise the old set up as an "Independent Front Suspension" with "Twin Traction Beams"...You will see the TTB referenced in top magazines as the original "IFS" and it is easy to understand how people do get confused over the "IFS"

well the rear is fine because i was going to do a SOA setup anyway i just just looking for a cheap kit.
the guy even said 'never have i ever heard those two vehicles being related in anyway'
im like are you ####ing kidding me?
i dunno, it says 83-97 and you are saying that in..98 the rangers went IFS, so shouldnt it work?

yeah i signed up on this site a LONG time ago when i had my ranger, i have a 1991 explorer now. i should change that.

Actually, they're not as similar as you might think they are...

Rear axle on an explorer is a 31 spline 8.8-inch. I believe that most rangers were 7.5-inch rears.

It's not at all uncommon to find a Ranger with 8.8- I'd say they were about 50/50, but I'm pretty sure the Ranger 8.8 has 28-spline shafts.

My 04 Ranger is stock 31 spline 8.8 rear, but it is special.

the 4.0 rangers had 8.8's

So did plenty of 2.3 Rangers that had the factory tow package. Seems stupid to have a tow package on a 4cyl, but I guess Ford figured they'd sell 'em if people bought 'em.

Did the 4cyl tow rangers get a heavy duty radiator? And did they make them in 5 spd?

Heyy i have a 98 x and i was wondering if any one knew if i could run 33x13.50x15 with just a rear shackle kit and tt??? thanks!!!

THANKS!! that should help alot

I knew rangers and explorers were pretty different, but I thought at the same time, alot was the same, and interchangeable.....I was wrong....LOL

(I learned this a while back)

...Kona, that is a great question and I want you to know I have been searching for answers since you posted it with no results to speak of, sorry...:(

...Some tow packages were as minor as a trailer ball on the bumper and a wire adapter while others actually had a bolt on hitch below the bumper...This also all depends if it was a "Dealership" package or a "Factory" package...:dunno:
