Hey guys,

I had this code pulled at advance auto parts, and it was "excessive air flow/egr". I bought an aftermarket EGR valve and had a local mechanic put it on. I still cannot get the check engine light to come off, and the code is still there.

Should I buy a dealer item on this one, and also get the EGR position sensor at the same time? I had them clear the code so that I could get through emmissions but it came right back on(probably just disconnected the negative battery cable). I need to get a tag on my EX. Thanks.

Your new EGR valve is probably fine.

You most likely need to replace the DPFE or EGR pressure sensor as they call it at the parts store. Check the two hoses going to the sensor - they are the special hi temp hoses and you may want to replace those given the age of the vehicle.

I see the EGR valve position sensor on advance auto parts website. I don't think that I have a DPFE sensor. I have the 5.0 Eddie Bauer. Is that the sensor that you are talking about? Thanks again.

Yes, that should be it. Has a couple of nipples on it where the hoses fit on. Kind of a pain to get at when you replace it.
