I've had a 2003 ford explorer for about 2years now. learned to drive in it. Planning on getting it off road ready for when I head off to college later this year. It has tires that seem pretty small, so looking to change that first. Any tips on tire sizes that would fit on a stock suspention that are bigger and better to give it a bit more of an agressive look?

Welcome to the forum.

Your door sticker will tell you what size tires came from the factory.

My ‘02 XLS had 235/70/16 (29” x 9-1/4”) tires as stock when I got it last October:

Now she sits on 265/75/16 (32” x 10-1/2”) tires, on 16x8 rims with a -6 offset. I also added 5 inches of lift (2” lift with strut spacers and a 3” body lift):

There are many threads here covering what you ask. I know some have stuffed the 265/75/16’s under their stock truck using wheel spacers. That’s fine if you never go on a challenging trail.

I like the State Forest roads (all we have in CT for “legal trails”), and there are some challenging spots with deep ruts, fallen trees etc. I had to actually secure back my inner liners as not to rub on these trails.

I hope this helps.
