I know there a million threads on peopel asking for exhaust help, but everyone has different demands.

i was thinking of putting a y-pipe:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-1-...990369868QQcategoryZ33633QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem off the motor, after the o2 sensors, and just have 1 2.5" cat next to the transmission and get rid of the one under it. after that it would go into a signle 2.5" in/out rumbly muffler and maybe get a little more oomph, then the rest is obvious. this would make doing anything with the transmission a whole hell of a lot easier, maybe one of these: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/TRAN...047860003QQcategoryZ33727QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

anyone see problems with this? or have a better idea? i'd like to get the cat out from under the tranny since that seems like a real bad place for it.

and where is the post cat o2? is it after the muffler goes into 1 or after 1 of the cats?

best thing to do on the 4.0 SOHC is have a single 2.5 inch pipe go to the rear. That Y pipe is expensive. You can find them for 25$ before shipping here

http://www.performance-curve.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=39

I would do the dual 2.25" to single 2.5 inch Y pipe (the SOHC has stock dual 2.25 inlets and single 2.25" outlet stock) Get a single in/single out 2.5 inch muffler and your good to go. This should yeild the best results in both high speed power and low end torque

What kind of sound do you want? If you want a deep rumble I would go either flowmaster 40 series or a newer muffler called the IMCO Extreme muffler. Apprently they dont have the highspeed drone like the flowy 40, doesnt get raspy, flows better, and is cheaper.

cool, thanks for the link. the muffler im eyeballing the the imco elite series 7501. the guy i called recomended the elite series cuz i want enough noise to raise an eyebrow, but not to be obnoxious either, and dont want to hurt the low-end performance of the sohc.

not to hijack your threadbut while one the topic of removing cats
How much power would come from removing all 4 cats on the 5.0l and just replacing it with a test pipe, as well as what muffler would give me better flow with no increase in noise

i wouldnt know about the cats, usually you get power from removing them, thats all i know. i talked to the guys at imco for a muffler recomendation, drop them a line at www.grabthepower.com they are pretty helpfull.

I have a single pipe with 2.5" piping and a 50 series SUV Flowmaster. I could not be any happier! Like you said it is enough to turn heads but not too obnoxious.

i just need to figure out what to do with the post cat o2(s) now, i'd go look, but i live south of dayton and were supposed to get up to 4" of snow, and so far we got 1.5-2", and im not rolling in the wet street right now unless i have to. i know both cats dump into the muffler, is there an o2 in the output side of each cat? how would i go about using 1 o2 sensor in place of 2?

I have duals 50 and I want to upgrade it to the extreme series single 2.5 inch to regain low end but dont have the money to do so. Remember the extreme imco is a single chamber muffler so its gonna get loud....

stay away from duals, go with a single 2.5 or 3" if you have extensive mods. You will not make an ounce more of power with duals and will probably loose power versus a good single setup! Use to run MAC but now run a Magnaflow. Both are close in loudness, don't go with either if you want a quiet or semi quiet vehicle. The sound it LOUD!

Agreed
I want to go with a single 2.5" pipe to regain low end. I also want the extreme series muffler because everyone talks about how deep it gets. We shall see

if i have 2 o2's after the cats i guess i should just use an o2 simulator on one, but do i still need to have it in a pipe or can i just tie it up?

i went to imco's site and the 5.0 mustang got 15 more foot pound of torque. there only problem is i dont know which muffler to buy lol, and they dont have a daul in doul out set up. As for removing all 4 cats on the 5.0 and runnin 2.5 pipes, you'll lose back pressure hurtin your torque. Its a balancing act, too much bad, too little bad, just enough good. ;)

the elite series has a couple of dual in/out choices

is it just as loud as my magnaflow?

not sure, i've tried to get the at the sound clips on thier site but they dont work for me.
