Exhaust mod.

I don't need it either but the emissions inspectors might need to see it when I go through testing...LOL. I know some have said to buy a new cat and hollow it out but the most cost effective thing to do would be to have it cut out and straight pipe put it.......if i can find someone to do it.

the part in question is not a resonater but in fact is a Catalytic convertor. I have pulled my system down on my third gen cut open all of the cats and removed all of the ceramics inside. The 3rd one i welded a pipe through the centre of it . so effectively its a full flowing exhaust system but for visual effects everything is still there.

just to confirm the 3rd unit in the system had the same ceramic in it as the front 2 cats, therefore it is a Catalytic Convertor and is part of the emission controlling system.

Can you cut it out and put a glasspack instead of just a straight pipe?

Haha no emissions testing here in KY, plus my muffler shop said theyd cut out that resonator cat thing no problem.

i dont see why u wouldnt be able to, i just did mine the way i did cos i dont care for anything extra in the system causing the exhaust gasses to slow down, plus i like my cars loud and it still looks factory if u poke ur head under there.

do u really want another muffler under there though?

what about that last part of the exhaust just before the tip? it looks like another small resonator. what is that? can it be removed?

im not sure exactly wat ur talking about, my 03 ex doesnt have anything like u described just before the tip. the only muffler is in the centre of the system. however any mufflers or resonators can be removed if u like.

If you're talking about the wider looking part of the pipe before the tip, that's just a heat shield for the spare tire.

JDT is correct, its just a heat shield for the spare...

LOL ,my bad, didnt even think of that

That "resonator" is a cat, but it won't throw a code being that it's behind the o2 sensor. Inspection here in TN is easy to pass though. They just hold the mirror out and usually don't even look at it. If you're debating cutting it off, I tell you it makes a major sound difference.

ya thats probably what i was thinking of. i kinda do wana take off the resanator

It sure made my truck a LOT louder.

it makes a major difference in sound yes , and pending your exhaust setup, can also make performance gains:thumbsup:

Yeah...I know that if there is no sensor behind the cat/resonator it won't trip the light...just worried that they might notice it on the visual inspection during emissions testing.
Hey idk where the resonator is at , I took off the muffler and the cat that was next to the muffler , I want to delete the resonator i just don’t know where its at
