Exhaust Question

Well hello everyone, first time posting in here. I need some help from other people that have explorers. I currently own a 98, 4.0 SOHC, 2dr, fully loaded beauti. I am trying to dress it up a little bit, but I want to add a exhaust to it. I am really having trouble locating one, since all that I have is the internet. I am currently stationed in Germany, and they don't have the exhaust shops like we have in the states.

Ok, well to make a long story short, I have the duel inlet and single outlet.. I can't seem to find one. Can someone please help me out here, is it possible to buy a kit? Or should I just wait till I come back to the States.

This all depends on how long it is going to take you to get back to the states. And how long you want the stock exhaust

I would wait until you return Stateside, then select the muffler of your choice and then have a muffler shop make a custom cat back for you.

Should be alot of exhaust talent in Germany, look at the systems on BMWs , mercedes and porshy cars.All are very complex and very finally done. If done over there, just make sure it's catback, good luck

The bottom line is that for the '98 Sport, there are no bolt-on cat-back systems (or mufflers for that matter!) The '97 and '98 Sport used a dial-in, single-out (as I'm sure you've noticed) but they used a flanged inlet on one side and a clamped inlet on the other.....

I ended up using a FlowMaster 50 series SUV/Performance muffler, dual in single out (I forget the model number, but it was a 3" outlet) and had a local exhaust shop modify it to fit. They stretched the one inlet and installed a flange, and they slip-fit the other side to make it work with the OEM pipes coming off the catalytic converters. The only thing they did to the cat pipes is to cut the bracket that runs between them to spread the pipes about 1/2" so they lined up with the muffler inlets.

On the back-side, they made an adapter to go from the 3" muffler outlet to the OEM 2 1/4" resonator and tailpipe. Worked like a charm!! Total cost:

Flowmaster 50 Series SUV/Performance Muffler: $96 plus tax.
Installation at a local muffler shop: $50 cash.

Short of going back to the stock exhaust replacement from the local Midas (i.e. junk!!) it was the only way to go.

Thanks allot of the great info and advice, I have decided to wait until I get back to the states. But hopefully there are other things that can be done to it while I am here.
