EXPLORER YEAH!!!
So trying to pin point why this might be happening my exhaust smell when the car is on is what I think is rich? Like super rich. Smells and rich as bill gates. Or like a smell I can't really pin point... Well besides that it doesn't smell normal. So is there some way I can find what is causing this?

I'd bet it's before the cat. Check for pin holes especially at seams. Check donuts rings and exhaust gaskets.
Pour a little atf just past the throttle body or down the spark plug holes. Crawl under there when it's cold. and have a friend start it up. look for smoke around the exhaust.

yup.

To everyone with this issue here is my story. 2013 Ford Explorer XLT, took it in a total of 3 times, finally 3rd dealership performed TSB, issue vey persistent. Entered BBB Auto line Process, Ford defaulted on mediation, proceeded in to arbitration Arbitrator test drove vehicle smelled the smell. Arbitrator requested technical expert inspect vehicle. Inspector came drove and inspected vehicle. Could not pin point smell, but definetly said that it was not normal. Arbitrator made decision to let Ford attempt repair AGAIN. I am getting an Attorney to start a class action lawsuit. WHY? You may ask, my son has serious breathing/asthma issues. Since I have had this car he has been on his inhaler every 4 hours and has had bronchitis 5 times. Upon research, it is proven that the chemicals in exhaust affect small children and those with lung issues more than anyone. It is very disappointing that FORD does not stand behind their vehicles.

You do realize this thread is talking about the much older Truck based Ford explorer that is now 20+ years old and not the Car based crossover vehicle you have?

Of course I do, but the problem is very similar!

Umm.. ok, if you think so..

To me, they aren't even close to the same "problem".. The only thing the same is you and the OP smelled exhaust..

Smelling exhaust has been reported more than a few times on the newer explorers, which I agree isn't right for a new vehicle....

The OP posted about an exhaust smell for a vehicle that was many years out of warranty and by that point the symptom of the exhaust smell is most likely caused by parts wearing out that needed to be addressed, not some issue that was there from the beginning..
