I have a friend of my wife's in from out of state with the kids and need a quick answer to get them out (g).

Her 99 Expedition starts fine and then instantly stalls. She just drove 300 miles to here. Before she left it was happening and the dealership drove to her house and drove the car there by using two feet to keep the engibe reving high enough. When they placed it on the computer is showed up as fine and they told her that maybe some water got somewhere. She then drove here, stopping twice with no incident.

Any quick thoughts on what this might be and can I possible do something? I don't need a total of six women in my house for the next few days!

Thanks in advance.

Try checking your IAC (Idle Air Controller). I have a 99 explorer and it was doing the same thing. Actually I am waiting for the part to come in sometime tomorrow. Anyways it's a solenoid attached to the top of the throttle body. I have a 4.0 SOHV engine and mine is right under the plastic cover to the throttle body. Unscrew the four bolts and it should be right there on top. Have someone start the truck and keep it running while you tap on the solenoid. If this is the problem it should work after a few tries. Worked for me...... Good Luck.

Expedition now running

Oddly enough, I did that by accident. I put two cans of Gumout in since she had a 3/4's full tank, along with a additive for water. It seemed to help a little right away after my neighbor and I rocked the car to mix it. I asked if he wanted to try and turn it over (g).

I took the cover off, not knowing what I would find. I thought I might be able to shoot Gumount on something. Instead, I took a wrench and tapped everything incase something was clogged. Then I chocked the pedal with a baseball bat and let it run for an hour. She slept over and I check it again at 3 AM as I go to bed quite late. It was fine in the morning and she made it home.

Thanks for the reply,
Mike
