I was looking into this for my 2017 and the best I can tell is that courtesy light disable/delay may be controlled by the following bits:

7A5-01-01 bit 34 (not 32)
726-32-01 bit 23
726-58-02 bit 39

I haven't tried yet, so proceed at your own risk and backup your ab data before making changes.

thx KayGee,and remind! is this from a comparison from a PIU AB file or any clue ? I will take time to try .

I have been comparing various PIU files. This was from a comparison of my 2017 to another 2017 and the only differences were rear HVAC, keyless, and courtesy light disable/dark car.

I just had my vehicle serviced and the dealership had to replace a few modules (RCM and BCM) and they pretty much reset everything to as built, so I have to put a few things back the way I had them and will be trying a few other things also when I get a chance this weekend.

thx and wish a good luck on the weekend try, the courtesy light disable/dark difference in PIU all in below address?
7A5-01-01 bit 32
726-32-01 bit 23
726-58-02 bit 39

could you share the PIU setting on those address you compared?

There are only 2 settings at the bit level - 0 and 1.

Mine were 0s for the addresses/bits listed and ETIS shows "Less Courtesy Light Delay"

The vehicle I compared had 1s for the addresses/bits listed and ETIS shows "With Courtesy Light Delay"

I tried the 726-32-01 change previously, but, it did not seem to do anything for me either, so I assumed there was more than one change required for this feature.

I believe that enabling or disabling Courtesy Light Delay only affects whether the lights go off as soon as the doors are opened/closed or are delayed in doing so. I'd think that if Dark Car was enabled those lights would not come on at all regardless if they are enabled or disabled.

Well, I tried the 726-32-01 change that I've seen on a few online spreadsheets and in various threads that referenced "dark car" for 2016-2018 and it did nothing on my 2017 PIU.

I reviewed several vehicles bit by bit with the As-Built Compare Deducer and it indicated that all 3 of the above bits were possibly related to courtesy light delay (typo on 7A5-01-01 bit fixed above).

Those were the only 3 bits that varied between the 2 vehicles I was comparing that I could not account for and they all referenced that they were possibly related to courtesy light delay. Because of that, I assumed courtesy light delay and dark car are either related or the same. If they are not, I apologize for any confusion.

Had a chance to connect and make some updates to my vehicle and I can confirm the following for my 2017 PIU to enable dark car:

As built mine had the following bits as 0 (less courtesy light delay) and the interior lights (with theater dimming) and DRLs were functional (w/car on and in gear).
726-32-01 bit 23
726-58-02 bit 39

When I changed the above bits to 1 (with courtesy light delay), the interior lights did not turn on when doors were opened and DRLs were disabled (i.e. dark car).

I was unable to confirm what 7A5-01-01 bit 34 did, but it didn't seem to make a difference whether it was 0 or 1 (for my vehicle and from my limited testing).

Again, when I tried to change just 726-32-01 bit 23, that did not do anything for my vehicle and the interior lights turned on and off with door opening (i.e. no dark car).

Here is the change I made and it seems to have worked for my 2017 Sport.

BCM - Dark Car - 726-32-01 xxxx x*xx xxxx 0=Disabled, 1=Enabled
BCM - Silent Mode - 726-58-02 x*x* x*x* x*xx 0=Disabled, 1=Enabled

I did both of these concurrently so I'm not 100% sure of you need both or just one of them (I don't think just the dark car setting worked for me).

The dark car menu setting did not work for me.

Many Thanks, I think 726-58-02 is the one I missed in last try. I will try on my 2017 ELT this week.

Thank you for sharing ! yea, I try to find out the menu also but seems no any clue , I even did not heart there is a menu on explorer can use Dark Car, that is not reasonable ... I ever made a physical switch in the rely box but not really convenient also not possible to close the door of rely box, so I gave it up.

Is your Explorer a Police Interceptor Utility?

There was only one bit that I changed in 726-58-02. Do you know what all of the other changes you made did or do the non-PIUs need that many changes to activate the feature?

I just followed the Platinum Owners spreadsheet and those were the modifications listed, I'm not sure if all of the bits actually needed to be changed.

Maybe @PlatinumOwner can clarify.
