I am looking to get my hands on another late model 99+ Ford Explorer 8.8 axle.

I ran across a chart that listed the Explorer Axle code 89 as being an open differential with a 4.56 ratio. Is this accurate, does anyone have experience with an Explorer coming from the factory w/4.56 gears?

4.56 was never available from the factory in the 8.8. 4.10 was the closest thing available.

Mine came stock with 3:73's.

I like cake.....................

Explorer's where never available with 4.56 gears, however rangers where.

which one? i thought 4.10 was the lowest offered (FX4 packages)

I don't know which ones where available one day but i was looking around on www.car-part under rangers and and option for 4.56 ratio came up. I found a few junkyards that had them forsale. Here's some info i could dig up on the rear axle

8.8" ring gear, 10" brakes, 4.56 ratio (tags S302G, S302L and V302B)

too bad the ranger rear end is narrower than an Explorer and has drum brakes, that would be a cool swap to get a factory 4.56 gear ratio

Don't trust everything you find on TRSs charts. Believe me, I know.

And 28 spline. :(

I think the few factory 4.56 axles were 31 spline. Don't hold me to that, though.
