Ok got a new TC and front pump today.

When my dad took the parts there they pulled there entire stock of tc for the al4d. They were making a newer modle and something is wrong with this run of the production. They removed about a pallet load from there warehouse there and sent them back. There pulling everyone of them apart to check them out after this happened

So they messed up? I'd be pissed ;)

Yeah there prob. They pulled one out while my dad was there and put a center shaft in it and it would not budge either.

We also think there is a demention change on the new stlye one to but he didnt ask.

Ok well here is a update to this. The tranny is coming out for the third time.

Dayco(sp) gave us a new tc and pump as stated earlier and we got it all in and guess what. It didnt work. AGAIN>>>>>> We pulled the tranny down half way before we put it back in and everything was fine. We even yanked the valve body and went through it again. Got a diagram from ford showing how the vb should be. It was correct.

Now were thinking something snapped in the rear half of the tranny. It was a new rebuild before the tc screw up.

Did you check the front planetary, and one way sprag? It could have damage. There was an updated planetary with 6 pinion gears. The older ones have 4. Pull the bell housing with the pump, and check those parts. They make more durable planetaries which are either one piece or tig welded. Could you post the diagram of the valve body which Ford gave you?

Ill have to see where my dad put the diagram of it and i will.

We went through the tranny and its almost back in. We found one of the clutch packs not exactly lined up and it could have been binding up. All we can come up with. Everything else was great. Did a full tear down except the clutch packs which are freshly rebuilt.

Ok after all that has gone wrong with this its still messed up......

Guys i need some help here. We put it all back together with new parts. Filled it up with new fluid and started it up. It ran ok while still on jack stands. All selectible gears work

When on the ground you have to race the engine to get it to move. So we shut it off.

What do i need to do next.

I got to get this going. Im running out of time here.

It's able to go into gear, but it doesn't have a strong, positive engagement until you rev it to increase hydraulic pressure? Is that the case? I would suggest that you connect a pressure gauge to the port to test the pressure in all of the gear ranges. Did you replace the boost valve, and end plugs on the valve body with the O ring design from Sonnax? The 4.0L uses the high ratio boost valve. Did you use a torque wrench on the valve body bolts? Did you have any luck finding that Ford diagram?

We did not replace the boost valve. Did not see a need to. Just cleaned the vb real good.

We are hooking up a pressure gauge to see that it has good pressure.

Do you know what pressures it should be reading in the gear ranges.

Check both links in # 10 in my list of useful threads. BTW, I went to the Ford dealer today, and asked for a printout of the valve body. They didn't have a break out view of the internal bores since they only sell it as a whole unit.

Ok ill scan what i have from ford. I have several digrams of the vb.

Ok

Here are the pressures:

OD 70 lb
D 65 lb
2 60 lb
1 68 ish lb

R over 160 lb

I just found that im going to do all three test. Idle, fast idle and wot

Be back in a few

Ok sitting at idle all the pressures are in range.

Fast idle and wot are not reading correct

Well during fast idle it does not get over 80 lb in any gear. Ran up to 2000 and couldnt pass 100

During wot it goes to around 140 lb then drops
