I was on my way to Pomano Beach (about 4 hrs away) today helping a friend pick up a motorcycle, when my Explorer started making a really funny noise and lost just about all power. I pulled over and couldnt find anything, so i decided to drive back to the nearest town where there happened to be a Ford dealership. I talked to a service guy and he pointed out that a vaccuum hose popped off my egr pressure sensor ( i think thats what its called). I bought a new sensor, my old one had cracked and thats why the hose came off. I thought everything was good, but now when i really get on it, the pressure blows that hose off again. The guy at Ford suggested that maybe i had a clog in my exhaust, and thats the easiest place for the pressure to go, therefore blowing off the hose? Any ideas, please help!!!

Your talking about your vac hoses that run from the DPFE sensor to the EGR tube right ? should be 2 smaller hoses that feed exhaust into the EGR system. Did you actually see this crack in the sensor??? Never heard of a crack in a DPFE sensor...usually the hoses that crack and wear. As far as your hose is concerned check to make sure it's the right size (did you get a new hose)...should fit fairly snug..and not pop off without having to work at it.

He is right in telling you it could be the exhaust. Typically when there is blockage somewhere...like clogged cat or muffler...the gases will find the point of least resistence to escape! So this could be your problem. I'd go down to a local muffler shop (not a dealership) and have your exhaust system backflow tested for any restrictions in the system.

hey that is what im talking about, i just wasnt sure what it was called. The sensor itself didnt have a crack, but the nipple where the hose goes into the sensor broke, so i had to replace it. i didnt get new hoses though, maybe i should try that first. This stuff always happens when im trying to help someone else. I let my dad take it to Miami a while back and a freezeplug went! Thanks for the info

I'd inspect the hose to see if that could be your problem. Check the end of the hose where it attaches to the DPFE...if there is any signs of age, or even the smallest cracks....this could be why it keeps blowing off. I know my hoses were so old and had been subjected to so much heat, that they had become hardened to the touch. You should be able to sqeeze/ bend the hose...if they're at all brittle I'd replace. I'd still have your exhaust system checked for any restrictions.
Hope this helps....Jason

thanks guys! i replaced the hoses yesterday and all seems well now. They were actually pretty cheap, only $4.50 per hose from Ford, i couldnt believe it, and they had it in stock!
