The Explorer Express Air Dam for the 99 Explorer is now installed on my truck.
This was a simple install and required few tools; a drill and a bit ( sorry, I couldn’t read the size on it – but the size of a # 6 bolt, flat blade screwdriver 5/16” wrench, a 3/8” ratchet and a 7 mm socket.
After re-glassing the dinged up air dam, sanding and painting ( I decided to try to match the color of the dark grayish black “bumper” as close as I could – and it matches quite well ), it was time to do the install.
The ends of the air dam are mounted to the bottom of the chrome surround for the factory fog lights using the existing 2 bolts ( on each side ) that hold the chrome piece to the plastic “bumper”. The air dam is very light and can easily be installed by one person without the need for supports..
On the air dam there are indentations where it needs to be drilled for these bolts. After drilling and reattaching each end with the old bolts. The fit is exceptional. Then, a hole was drilled through the air dam and the plastic “bumper” in 6 evenly spaced places along the air dam. One inch # 6 bolts with # 8 flat washers, a lock washer and nut were screwed down.
That’s it; a very simple install. Pictures soon, the digital camera decided to crap out.
Time involved was about 8 hours for the glasswork and painting ( 3 coats ), including sanding and drying time; the actual install took about 30 minutes.
Mine looks just like this picture from Explorer Express…..
