My Explorers starter is acting funny. I just replaced it (what fun) about a week ago. Now sometimes when I start the truck the starter keeps going, for a few seconds. Other times, like today, I was standing beside the truck, and well it started itself. I don't know jack about electrical, but one of my friends said that he thinks it has to do with the electric start. I also had another issue where the truck wouldn't turn off. Wth is going on? I'd really appreciate any input.

OK...if the starter "keeps going" there is probably something wrong with the solenoid on the starter. It either energizes the starter which engages the bendix to the flywheel or stops the circuit of electricity going to the starter. It's just like an on/off switch. As far as I know you can't replace the solenoid, you have to replace the starter and solenoid as a unit.

You have a remote start? If that is the case, it's a whole 'nother ball game.

You could also test the solinoid on the fender

And it is only a $10 part. Simple regression testing, remove and replace the part you just replaced.
