It all depends on what you want out of the truck. Do you want to be able to carry 5 people comfortably and do you want to have lots of covered cargo area?

IMO that's the main thing: do you want a large enclosed interior or a truck bed?

i would take the X any day. but, i want something that can comfortably seat 5... what do you want to do with it?

i would rather have a ranger..... hell, my truck is going to be nothing more than a seat with a rolling chassis anyways....

i'd like to have a ranger, but i got an explorer for real cheap, so thats what i've got

think about your size and seating comfort. If you are 6'2" an X is the way to go. You can get some comfort in an extended cab, but it still doesn't compare to the stretching room in an X!

I deleted your other thread, PLEASE DON'T DOUBLE POST!

Although Explorers have the advantage in people space and are a bit more manuverable on the trail than my truck.

if you're just wanting something to drive, get an explorer............if you wanna go offroad you can either go with a 1st generation X or a ranger, the ranger has a lot of options for modifications, the newer 2nd generation X's dont have too many things you can modify

the newer 2nd generation X's dont have too many things you can modify

Sure they do, you just have to use your imagination.

Just get one of each. ;) :p

Has everybody forgotten about the 4 door Ranger, huh I mean Explorer? Whatever the hell it is... It's both, so just call it a Rangorer or Explanger.

Here's my favorite one in Action!

I like Explanger better. :) Cause you have to explan what it is. :D

I'm kind of partial to the Rangers, but that's because I'm always hauling stuff, same damn truck as the Explorer, but I do think it's cooler what you Ex guys do with your trucks:D How often do you see a 2nd gen on 33's other than people you know running around?

sport trak

do u think a sport trak would do pretty good with a big lift and some bigger tires? i never thought of that its like a ranger and a x

The 2001 and newer Ranger SuperCab and the 2001 and up Sport Trac have the same chassis, engine, and front suspension.
The rear suspension differs on the Sport Trac by being sprung under like the Explorers. But, the 2001 and 2002 Sport Tracs have drums in the rear like the Rangers. The 2003 Sport Trac model gets disc brakes in the rear.

As for lifting and putting on bigger tires, it's the exactly the same in the front for either the Sport Trac or the Ranger. The rear would differ slightly because of the Sport Trac being sprung under. But converting the Sport Trac to a spring over setup is a no brainer. The total minimum cost would be to by new spring perches and getting them welded to the top of the axle tubes.
Then swap the u-bolts and spring pads from one side to the other and flip them over.
Remove the anti-sway bar and bolt the lower part of your shocks to the bolt holes that the anti-sway bar used.

So what it really comes down to is what size cab/bed do you want. What's more important? Bigger cab or bigger bed?
Personally I think the Sport Trac has better styling.

Proof is in the pudding:
