with that bumper pushed in what happens if he gets rear ended?

look good though.

thats pretty neat. roll pans are cool, but everytime i see a thread about em on here, i just think about my accident last september - if i had a roll pan instead of a bumper when that old lady in a buick hit a stopped full size chevy pickup at ~50 mph and pushed him into me...heh, forget about it.

nice job.. did u basically just cut the bumper? and did u have to cut at the frame rails to do that? are you going to do a write up?

Looks good, paint the chrome and it would look even better.

i had an accident years ago in the exact same manner as you described, and in the same truck. mine was a 90 chevy with a big block. i DID have a roll pan. i was stopped behind an old lady (turning) and was rear-ended by a kid in a 4x4 Nissan doing 45-50 mph. i was pushed up on the steering wheel, the bed was pushed in through the cab, and my truck hit the TOP of the trunk of her car (mine was lowered, it flew about 3 ft. off the ground.) i was uninjured, the truck was totaled.

my point is, stock bumpers dont do a whole lot as far as high impact crash protection. the frame absorbs most of the impact. a strong guy can almost bend a stock bumper with his hands. they are junk. a roll pan isnt really any more dangerous than a stock bumper, it just helps protect the vehicle in low speed accidents.

oh, and jbhill, how about an explanation on the bumper cutting?:D

only reason i said that was because here in central florida we are the low speed rearending capital of the world it seems.

JBHill tell us how it was done! it looks tight

ill do a write up. yas we had to cut the frame. we cut 4 in out of the bumper. ill get what ever pics yall need. this took some time maybe bout 4 hours to do it.

That does look good.
I really dig the white emblem.

I'd put one on in a heart beat!! The rear bumper is bolted directly to the frame rail. If you want added support after a rolled pan then fabricate a "bumper" behind the rool pan out of 2"x2" square tubing. Weld some bracket on it...your done. It'll all be hidden by the roll pan.

i am also very interested on how u did this.
