2001 Explorer Sport
Hey, I'm kind of new here and was wondering about a few things...I have an 2001 Explorer Sport w/ the basic system. First is there an opening or hole already there to feed the power wire from the battery tro the amp without doing any drilling? Second what is the easiest way to remove the factory radio if I don't have the correct tool to remove it? and Third where are most of you putting your amps at?

Oh, and are any of you still using your factory head unit with your system?

Thanks your help and advice is much Appreciated!!!

I've tossed the factory HU a couple weeks after buying every vehicle I've ever had!

If it's an auto, there should be a large rubber grommet pretty much directly underneath the steering wheel on the firewall, close to the pedals. I've used that grommet in my 99 sport, and my old 95 XLT. It was good for 3 - 1/0 guage wires with just the factory grommet, till I was done though I had four poking through there with a little provocation. :)

I ran the factory head unit at first with line level outs off of the back speaker, it sounded pretty good, but i still put in an aftermarket H/U later. Btw, I sold my factory cd deck for like $50 on ebay... If you runn a smaller amp they fit on the side walls below the rear speakers behind the front seats.
