Brothers son has a 1998 Ford Explorer. They just purchased the vehicle with 225,000 miles. I know that is a lot of miles.

My brother did a tune up with new spark plugs, new plug wires, coil pack, new air and fuel filter. He also changed oil in the vehicle.

The Explorer cranks fine when it is cold. It will turn over about two times and fire up.

If you drive it a bit and turn it off and try to restart within 20 minutes, the vehicle is very hard to start. It turns over about 12 - 15 times prior to starting. When it does start, it jumps violently for about 15 seconds or so and then it is okay.

Any ideas on what to look for?

Check your fuel pressure, sounds like the pump is getting ready to give up.

Thanks,

Will send that to him. Any chance it may be the crankshaft sensor?
