I changed the transmission in my 95 explorer 4x4 and it ran great for about a month. It was then (a month later) I remembered that I never put any fluid in the transfer case! My 4x4 still works and the truck runs good. The problem is I have no reverse or neutral. My truck goes forward in neutral. In reverse it will not move but my engine will only accelerate to 3000rpm. Same in park. Feels like something is holding the engine back. If I accelerate high(3000-3500rpm) while in park it will jump out of gear and go forward. It is slightly overfilled with fluid, about a half quart.
Could this be caused by a damaged upper or lower body valve gasket?

This is a used tranny out of a 96 explorer with 117,000 miles. The truck looked really nice and had been taken care of really well. One previous owner a elderly woman.

No I did not check the pins, never thought to. It did connect with no problems. Reverse and neutral worked fine for about a month. I did not flush and drain the tranny when I put it in. I'm thinking maybe the radiator clogged-up my new tranny.

It's possible that the cooler had junk which clogged the valve body. Connect a 0 - 300 PSI test gauge to the transmission to test the main pressure, and the EPC pressure. Each one has a separate test port.
