explorer sport 92
I have a Explorer Sport 1992 manual transmision 4x4
Some people said to me that the tranfer case of my explorer is the same of the MAZDA B2600 4x4.
Somebody knows if that is true?
Was the explorers equiped with a Mazda transfer (model M5)?
Is the M5 the unique Mazda transfer that was used by Ford explorers?
PLEASE HELP!

You will have a borg warner 13-54 transfer case on your explorer. I do believe these were used on the later B2600s (1990 and up). They were used on Rangers and the Bronco II. I believe it also appears on the B4000 Mazda.

yep..you`re right the explorers gives the 1354 BW but, the 1354 BW works over the four wheel drive.
In 2wd the transfer case is other.
There is two transfer case.
One: The normal 2wd ( I think the explorer manual gives a Mazda M5 model )
Two: The 1354 BW electric for the 4wd

There is no transfer case on a 2WD Explorer. Are you thinking about the transmission, cause the majority of the 5speeds were Mazda trannies, but a few Mitsubishi trannies were used - thrown in to make life interesting for everyone.

TPLYNCH: thaks for the correction (and pardon my bad english).
Right now I m reading about the transmission maked by Mazda and Mitsubishi.

I dont know if my explorer have a mazda or a Mitsibishi transmision
The mazda model is the M5 and mitsubishi model is the
F146 type.
But my explorer transmision have not a identification code or anythink else.

in that page I goun some information. Now Im asking my self¡Can I put on my explorer a mitsubishi transmision Type F146?

The 2 transmissions should be interchangeable I believe. You should be able to determine which tranny you have (if it's still the original) from your VIN code I believe. Not sure which letter/numbers indicate which tranny tho....

Thanks to all!
Yesterday I entered to the net with the intention to find more information about explorer transmission.
I found this:II, Explorer and Rangers have the same transmission betwen 1988-1998:nThe Toyo Kogyo Mazda M5R1

Some Aerostar, Bronco
Betwen 1985-1992 some V6 2.9 L engines Bronco II, Ranger, and Explorer gaves the FM146 Mitsubishi tranmission

The FM145 was used betwen 1985-7 4x4 only and the F 146 was used again betwen 1988-1992 4x2 and 4x4

You will find this information in:
