Hi there guys,

Im from the UK and want to start a new project!...

The most common cologne over here is the 2.9 V6, however i have easy access to the 24v cosworth heads.

I would like to make a 4.0l 24v engine....

Can you tell me what years the engines went from OHV to SOHC? and also point me in the right directions for engine diagrams etc.

Has any one done a similar conversion? i have read a post about this but unfortunately there wasn't much info. Ideally i would like to use the 2.9 block with the 4.0l crank.

I have also heard about this engine being used in a mustang? what years were they?

Many thanks

Rob,

I'm not sure if the year changes in the UK correspond to the year changes here in the US. But in the US, the OHV and the SOHC existed side by side from 1997 when the SOHC was introduced, up until 2001 when the OHV was terminated.

thanks very much for the reply!

Why do you think they ran together for so long?

Good question - I'm not exactly sure why the two existed for such a long time. Typically phasing out such a product only takes two years or so. But perhaps Ford just wanted the consumer to pay a little more money for the more powerful engine (the SOHC) as opposed to the baseline OHV.

There was a guy by the name Tobbe that did this but he used a 4.0 OHV bottom end, SBC rods, custom pistons, with the 24V cosworth heads. Do an advanced search in this forum with threads started by "Tobbe".

EDIT - NEVERMIND, I SEE YOU FOUND THE THREAD.
