Explorer years to avoid?

Well.. the 5.0 may be a no go. I didn't realize it was an AWD, not a 4WD. My understanding is that the AWD won't be as good for winter conditions or dirt roads than the 4WD.

Quest is over!!!

bought a 94 Green XLT with 220K km (137,500 miles) on it. Paid $2000 CDN (just under $1900 US) Body is in great shape, only rust is on the rear bumper. Some paint peeling off of the top of the tailgate, otherwise everything else is good. Tires are almost brand new with a new spare (practically $600 in tires alone!)

thanks to everyone for the advice. Look forward to more questions on how to make it better and improve fuel economy!

Beggars can't be choosers and I can only buy what's available right now, not what's ideal.

I'm also trying to buy before the end of the month before the Gov't here sticks on the 12% tax on private sale vehicles.

Damn government .... sounds like its time for another tea party in your area. :bounce:

Congrats on the new to you Explorer. This forum is inexhaustable in technical knowledge.

94 EXP Lts see some pics of the new ride!!!

Congrats on your Explorer, the first gens will always be my favorite, after all they did lead the way for the suv market in the 90's. Ok, now show us what she looks like! :D Is this truck auto or manual?

That would require two things: #1, Canadians getting off their ass and doing something about it instead of just complaining (we are working on collecting enough signatures to initiate a recall) and #2, A viable alternative to the Government we currently have in place, which the pickings are slim.

It's an auto. I'm kinda tired of driving stick, and I needed something the wife can drive too if needed.

So far the only things majorly wrong is the windshield needs to be replaced, AC needs a recharge (or find the leak) and the cruise doesn't work (big deal...). Shocks are a little spongey on the front end, but my father-in-law took it for a ride and he thought it rode really well. Coolant could use a flush and brake fluid looks kinda dark, otherwise everything seems to work (so far). AC is probably the next on the fix-it list. It's supposed to get up to 30 to 35 celcius this next week!

Pics are before I had a chance to really polish it up.

I say that truck looks pretty damn good.

2 things I noticed wrong about your truck though, there's a humungous crack across the screen....and some idiot put the steering wheel on the wrong side...

Njoy the explorer
