Hello All!
My wife and I are planning a cross country vacation for summer 2018 and I am on the hunt for a suitable machine for the job. I do love my 2013 Taurus but admit its a tiny bit cramped for leg and knee room for my 6'3" frame. Just from a lot of picture gawking, the Explorer looks like it could provide the extras we seek.

There are already so many little touches about Fords I like...blind spot mirrors, ambient interior lighting, great engines, good reliability, and despite all the negative reviews, I kinda like SYNC.

I've looked at a few XLTs, basically offering all that is good about my Taurus and few more needed items...obviously the extra room is key. I also like (I know this sounds petty) but the cupholders that dont block access to the shifter. AWD is a major plus as there might be some light off-pavement adventures out west. The same great 3.5 engine (no turbo for me...I love that N/A growl) and familiar dash/console.

I do love my share of curvy roads, and given the zesty pace I've seen the Interceptor versions zing by me, I assume the suspension can be made to tame a mountain road.

Outside of those things, I'm open to suggestions and shopping pointers. I'll be looking for a 2014 or newer model w/sunroof and nav.

Btw, here is the present KnightOwl...

I already have a convertible playtoy in the garage so I will have to sell/trade the Taurus for the Explorer. The KnightOwl does have almost 100k on the clock so far and still going strong. Ideally, I'd love to find an Explorer in deep impact blue with all the similar equipment. It would almost be like a legacy! LOL

Any problem areas I should be looking for in a used Explorer?

I also cut the plastic dead pedal out from under the carpet in my Taurus. I noticed one Explorer I sat in had the same dead pedal. I hate that thing! I think its a wasted four inches of legroom.

Thanks for joining, it's great to have you here
