Rancho, Pro-comp, etc make shocks for the Explorer that are 4-6" longer. Just have to look for them as Explorer shocks "lifted 4-6" "

www.shockwarehouse.com is one of our vendors...

The way I did it was to look in the rancho catalog for the description of the stock shock type (you can download the master catalog at gorancho.com)

It shows the compressed and extended length and the type of mounts (upper and lower).

I then looked through all their shocks (the numerical listing) and wrote down the extended/compressed length of all the shocks that had the same mounting type as the stock set...

Now look through that list for a set of shocks that has a compressed length no shorther than your stock compressed + 4". The extended length needs to be at least 4" longer than the stock extended legth.

If you can find a set that is exactly 4" longer you will keep your shock travel the same. If you can find out that gives you a little more extended and/or a little less compressed length (after you account for the 4" lift) you can "possibly" get a little more suspension travel. It depends on your lift kit.. as some don't give any more travel.

i know but i want to buy the edelbrock shoks and i need to know what other truck has the same mounts but 4 inches longer.

shocks off the front of a 00 ram 1500 are the same setup and about 4 inches longer

But whats the valving going to be like? if they arne't adjustable, they, in theory, will be stiffer than explorer shocks.

thanks guyus but i already bought the edlelbrock shocks for a 4 inch lifted f150. they are the perfect length.

I see you bought shocks... I'm in much the same boat. The shocks I have are for a Ranger and seem way too stiff for the Explorer compared to factory seeing as the other half has a bad back, a softer ride is in order. Myself, I'm looking at the Rancho part number RS999115XL for mine. Not quite the same as the ones I have for length, but only about a quarter inch difference on each end and adjustable.

That is exactly what I did.. Because everyone preference on shocks rate is different I went with adjustable 9000's. I can dial them up/down to fit my preference not the preference of the masses.

im glad to hear that they will be stiff so it wont bottom out when i hit a mud hole:D:thumbsup:

whats a good shock for a 5.5 lift,i also like them a little stiff!!

I used shocks for a '79 F150, front quad shocks in front of axle housing. They work great for me. Cross referenced them in a catalogue for extended length, collapsed length etc. I have a 41/2" lift and they give full droop.
