i have a 2002 ford explorer 227,000+ miles

my explorer which has

4x4 auto
4x4 high
4x4 low

my 4x4 auto and 4x4 high work just fine, but my 4x4 low blinks 6-9 times, does or did anyone have this problem and if so maybe you can give me a starting area as to what you did to solve your problem so maybe i can get a start on the issue.

To put it into 4low you need to have the truck in Neutral, give that a try if you did not do that.

tried in park and nuetral with brake pressed and not pressed.

Try it on a surface where the wheels can slip, like ice or mud. Mine is really stubborn if I'm on hard ground. But then again you shouldn't be using it on a hard surface anyways.

The problem is that the system detected a fault when you tried to engage low range and has stored a trouble code (as evidence by the blinking lights). Odds are the shift motor is not responding to the call to shift (again, stopped, in neutral, with your foot on the brakes), but that could be due to a blown fuse, bad motor, bad shift relay, or other wiring issue. There is no one solution that will solve the issue.

ok so here is what i have done so far.

transfer case went out long story: replaced
came with a new shift motor on it and it does work tested.
disconnect battery to reset all sensors
reconnect battery

this is a dash system(buttons)

4x4 auto is working
4x4 high is working
both tested at locations that i could get wheels to slip.

4x4 low is not working: vehicle stopped, in neutral and brake applied(also tried not applied.
4x4 low blinks on the dash

now i have checked the fuses all in order except this

in my owner manual there is a 5 amp fuse under the dash(the #4 fuse) for the digital transmission range sensor.

no power to this fuse at all.
any ideas?

THe question is: do you really need 4LO?

So how does 4LO help you in the snow? What advantages does 4LO have over 4HI in the snow?

to be honest i just want everything on the truck working.
also an update
the #4 fuse must be working becasue when i pulled fuse i could not start the vehicle this morning put it back in and it fired right up.

so i have talked to several ford technicians(or ex-ford techs) and most of them say that there is an alignment tool for the digital range transmission sensor. they also told me that this is not needed they stated that i should be able to put the vehicle in park and loosen the nut on the arm, then tighten it back down. and see if that fixes the problem also found this site( http://www.ratiotek.com/5r55w-complete.pdf )

it shows everything in the transmission and the DTR on pg. 58 shows pins and all which is really nice. so since i have 4 auto and 4 high but no 4 low i am going to try what was stated above, the 4 low is timing out not reading that it is neutral. if this does not work i will probably spend the $93.00:( to replace the DTR also seems to be a dealer item only. also found a great site called car-part.com , they have a list of almost everything you could want.

i will let every one know what i find and get back to the site and post.

before i get off to my adventure i want to say thanks to everyone who has or is helping by posting a reply any and all info is good in my book. again thank you.:us::exporange:exp:
