If I had any idea it would be this hard I would have paid the shop to do it.

I'm putting an EZ-Locker up front on my 94 XLT ( Just trying to keep up with Gerald )
The halfshafts were easy, gotta watch out for that 6mm 12pt bolt that holds part of the ABS sensor to the spindle assemble. I stripped it by using a 6pt socket on that bolt. Ever try to find a 12 pt thinwall 6 mm? Anyway those bolts have been replaced with allen head bolts for much easier access.

Pulling the Dana 35 was a real pain. The drivers side radius arm shields the torque arm bolt so you have to move it out of the way. Yes a lot of stuff has to come off to do that.

The third member is now on my garage floor.

Yea, I can now start the EZ-Locker install. However, I can't get the slide pin out to remove the spider gears. Ford, used a pressed pin to keep the slider pin from coming out. I have to remove the carrier to press the pin out now. Bummer I can't get the carrier out of the case. I'm taking the third member in to have a shop press it out tomorrow. I think I'll have them tap it for a bolt like the rear has so I can have easy access in the future.

I was planning to document this whole process and even started taking pictures. However the cussing got way out of hand and I felt that documenting this would lead others to attempt this install.

( Yes, I'm bummed. I thought I would be done after 10 hours )

Oh No! Sounds like trouble. I am planning to pull my front third member for a gear replacement later this week. The rear is now ready to go back together, just as soon as I sort throught the scattered parts on the floor of my garage.

Hey TRACE,

How was the rear install? Did you put the locker in yourself? The guy in Wyoming can't put my gears in in time for MOAB! Damn! I am going to install the No-Slip Locker myself next week-end and have the gears installed in a few months. I just wanted to know if you had any tips/tricks on how to make the install smoother.

HIX,
Just wondering, what is your current gear ratio, and do you have an auto or 5-speed? How much crawling have you done with those gears and 33's?

I have done some crawling w/ the 3.55s I have in it right now. It sucks! I want to have the 4.56 gears I have in the garage put in, but the guy who was putting them in can't do it by Moab time. So.....I will install the locker myself and wait till he has an opening for the gears.

I figure if I gotta have tall gears then I might as well put the locker in to minimize wheelspin.

PS....5spd

The Powertrax install is very straight forward. You can probably do it in about an hour, maybe two. Mine became complicated by adding the 4.56 gears. The slip pin requires grinding in order to fit past the ring gear. I used the factory pin rather than destroy the new one supplied with the locker. Just a guess, but the ground pin still should be a lot stronger than the factory carrier.
