Can anyone tell me for sure whether or not 18x9 Lightning wheels will fit on an Explorer?

We had a new Lightning in the shop yesterday and I was looking at those things and really thought they'd look awesome on my Explorer.

I know plenty of people have put 17x9 Cobra rims on Explorers, and I guess it requires spacers, but no big modifications. So I'd think that an 18x9 wheel should fit as far as that goes. The biggest thing I'm unsure about is bolt pattern. I know both Explorers and F-150s are 5-lug of course, but the bolt spacing may very well be different.

I know of course anything is possible, if you're willing to spend enough money that is... but hopefully I can get some Lightning wheels to work. If not I'm thinking maybe some 2002 GT wheels. It'd be easy enough for me to swap some out at work to see what they look like before buying.

F-150 is 5 on 135 mm

Those rims may look ok on some Explorers, but personally I don't want chrome wheels.

I've been looking around, and I think maybe I'll get some other SVT wheels. I know I want silver painted wheels, because chrome just won't look right on my Explorer. I found some 17x9 wheels for only $160 each. They're 1999 SVT Cobra wheels (not the standard Cobra R wheels like everyone has). Pretty nice looking, I just don't know exactly how they'll look on my Explorer. I've tinkered around in Photoshop but I still can't quite picture it.

Right now (assuming there's just no possible way to make the Lightning wheels work) I think I got it down to either 99 Cobra rims, 2002 GT rims, 2001 Cobra R (these aren't the ones everyone else has either, these are the real Cobra R rims from the red 2001 Cobra Rs) or, if I decide to go more expensive, I do think some Torque Thrust IIs would look nice.

I have seen someone else with Torque Thrust IIs on an Explorer Sport and it looks very nice.

I'm not sure if this will work with the AWD, but I have seen several older vehicles that have had the bolt pattern redrilled to accept the desired pattern. Example early Chevy trucks coverted from six lug to five lug for more wheel possibilities. Back in the day the wheel companies didn't do a whole lot for those with six lugs.

Good luck with your quest, Hope my insight helps you out.
