I'm going to replace the shocks on my 1991 F-250 that will be towing my explorer on a car hauler trailer.

I found Air shocks on E-bay for the rear. Would this be a BAD idea? Why?

I'm also considering overload shocks (coils around the shock body)...

I'm looking for the most stable towing platform I can get.

The only problem with air shocks is that the shock mounts are what is taking some of the load instead of your springs. I don't know how strong the shock mounts are in your truck, or how much force you might be applying to them. A better solution would be to go with a set of helper springs (Add-a leaf or a load distribution system) or air bags and a good set of regular shocks.
