Well, I just picked up a 91-94 JBL sub box with the two amps from the junkyard for dirt cheap. I think the sub amp might be dead since the previous owner ran some new wires to the back of the sub.

Would a small aftermarket amp die from heat behind the interior panel?

Go for it and find out?

Put it on eBay and start over?

No, an aftermarket amp would not die behind the panel. I've seen people put amps there many times.

As far as the factory JBL sub, I say scrap it. Did you know you can fit a Kicker L7 8" sub behind that panel and about 5 times more bass. If you want that, that is. I've also seen that. Or a JL Audio 10W1v2 10" sub. I'm gonna do the latter.

nvrenufedge, thanks for the reply.

Well, I mostly got the JBL sub enclosure just for the enclosure. The sub itself was cracked, so it stayed in the junkyard. If I can make the factory amp that is attached to it power a sub, then that will be fine.

I am not looking for tons of bass, just something to help out the existing speakers. If I could find a small cheap amp to power whatever sub replacement goes back into the box (6½ inch or mod box to fit something else), and it put out some "ok" bass, then I would be happy.

I want something simple to hook up, cheap, and stealth. I figured an amp under the rear seats would bake if I put the seats down, which happens.

I also picked up a powered Bazooka tube from the pawn shop for dirt cheap before I ran across the JBL enclosure. It is the BTA8100, which retails around $200 currently, so I figured I could pawn it for at least the amount I bought it for. I thought about rigging that in the enclosure space behind the panel, but could not think of a way to rig a grill up and not have it too noticeable. In the junkyard though, I grabbed the JBL grill. It needs alot of work, but will suffice. It was free anyways.

The amp should be fine. I've had mine in there for 2+ years & several 12+ hours straight drives.

Jl 6"

The JL 6W0-4 works beautifully and for $80 it beats the Ford dealers price by $40. The only thing I had to do was cut down the plastic about a half inche in the back of the box and extend one of the wires + or - about 6 inches. It sounds 1000 times better than it did before. Im a cheap ******* so it worked out in my favor.
