I have two of the Limited CD players on a shelf now. Both went bad before about 2005, and I had paid about $150 to repair one of those. The display face/board was bad on the original, and it cost $120ish new to get that.

I would suggest installing a different deck, the OEM units are very hard to get repaired, and likely will cost as much as a nicer new deck.

Yea, I thought so....Thanks for the info!

Shop around, you will find a lot for under $150 and under $100, that'll go right in and have bluetooth, USB etc. I had a Kenwood from about 2001 that I put in my 93 Limited, to replace the stock CD deck. It still works now, after being in my old 95 Crown Vic, and my 99/93 Explorer. I had to buy the different wiring adapter for each vehicle, and splice that to the deck's adapter, but it's plug and play. This Kenwood doesn't have the latest features, but it does play MP3's on CD's I made with my PC. It's nice to have 150+ songs to play in a row, without changing discs.

Yeah, ditto everyone here, plus, a modern deck will have cell phone integration, and yeah, you may need adapters if you have the external amp. I forget offhand how to figure out if you have an external amp, but I'm sure it's in a thread here somewhere.

I have those U shaped tools to pull of factory radios.....Something WEIRD Happened? I had the key in acc postion, while putting those U shape tool in place; The radio turned on? The green lights on radio didnt show. Just wanted to pull out CD player. Didnt want a parasitic draw.....

Did your CD player display "BAD" on it by chance? Both of mine did before I removed them. The one repair i had done was different than whatever the logic error I had later. After the one expensive repair, I wasn't willing to risk that again. I bought a used one from eBay, and it died about six months later.

Heres what happened?
The last 2 or 3 months; Random no display and or radio didnt work. Some days display and radio would work....So I had no Error code on display.....So no "BAD"
Its my "Winter Beater" Theres no way Im putting money into for a Radio!!

I agree, you can buy a decent new radio and the adapter wiring for under $75.

There are two power wires to the radio, switched and a constant hot for the memory. If either of these is interrupted the radio won't work. Since it is intermittent i think the memory circuit is good but you may have a bad ignition switch. (The switch not the key cylinder.)

In Early March my explorer would'nt start (warm Start) while I was grocery shopping?? Had it jump started, drive home checked and Tested the battery alt etc...all fine? I could never duplicate that problem again? Does that sound like a bad ignition switch would cause that? The ignition switch is original......

P.S How would that cause the radio not to work? A Bad ignition switch?. Im wondering if these two problems are together?
On rockauto there super cheap... Look im not fan of throwing parts, to see if that fixes it....

Thanks

Electrical problems/gremlins turn up often in older cars hitting 20 years or so. Now is a wise time to replace all of the relays for example. The high current components are also suspect now, the ignition switch and multi-function switches likewise, I'd replace those too.

Check the battery terminals soon too, those can have corrosion build up, which don't always cause no starting etc. But they can become big problems depending on how much corrosion is growing in the cable itself(spreads to ends etc). I've replaced my old 91 Lincoln battery cables due to that, using a new take off cable set from a 99 Explorer I had spare parts from. Take great care of the OEM cables, they are not available any longer.

YUP, Battery Cables!...... When shes in Storage, I plan replacing battery cables....

Excellent, and help me(others too) by looking for an OEM cable that might work in these 95-01's. Sometimes parts store brand cables do fine, and sometimes they don't(corrosion grows sooner in some). I've had great cables I had made, and one that went bad after about two years(internal corrosion). The OEM cables seem to last the longest, but I do wish they were larger gauge.

I have a junk Yard, that has 4 Ltds and 5 other 91-94 Explorers. I can buy Positive from rockauto, getting neg from junk yard not a smart move? Some of these have 20k on them?......

20k, really, if any have low mileage, then there are lots of things to go after? The electronics and small gauge wiring, components running high current, all of that kind of thing are precious now. Ford doesn't make a lot of that, and normal use parts are not much better than what you may be replacing. I'd love to find low mileage cables, like the set I put in my 91 Lincoln, they were like new compared to 20 year-old-mileage parts.
