Factory In Dash 6 CD Player...BROKE!!

I just purchased a 2001 Explorer Sport...i never even thought to test it before i took it off the lot, but neway when i press cd it says "initializing" and then "cd error"...same thing when i press eject. The cd door does not even open or close by itself like the manual says. Anyone know what could be causing this ? If i buy an aftermarket cd player will it sound better or should I just go back to ford and let them fix it ? Thanks for the info. I just sold my 3 mustangs to buy this truck so I am new to the whole explorer thing....

If you just purchased it, by all means take it back to Ford. At the very least they should fix it so if you choose to go aftermarket, you could (1) sell the Ford one to gain some extra income or (2) save it so that if you ever take the system out of the Explorer you can return it to stock condition.
