I recently bought a 96 Explorer Limited. It had the cell phone option, however no more cell phone. The radio says "Phone" when I start it. If I press the phone button, the voice comes on asking for a name.

My question is this...

Does anyone out there know if an adapter is available, to plug into the connector inside the console (it looks like a phone jack), so that I can use my cell phone the way the original phone option was intended?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
thanks;
Jonathan

Not as far as I know... The only company I know of that *might* be able to give you an idea would be the folks at PIE. (www.pie.net) They make a plethora of adapters for the stock stereos and may have some idea for you. They were originally intended to be used with the Ford (Airtouch cellular) phones of the mid-90s. Not sure anyone has ever retrofitted anything in its place.

Thanks for the advice. I've checked their website, and it doesn't look like they have what I'm wanting.

With all of the advances in cell phone technology, I find it hard to believe that there isn't something out there that will work.

Let me know if you think of anything.

is there a Jack or a sensor that was originally supposed to pick up a phone to be used in the radio?

That's just it.... the advances in cell phone technology have come a LONG way since the early-90s. The in-car features, like OnStar and Ford's Sync have done a good job keeping pace, but they're not retrofitting the new technology into older vehicles (i.e. they're not making that stuff backwards-compatible). Plus, given the advances in modern equipment, the stuff in a 15 year old Explorer is a dinosaur by comparison.
