Noise fron cell phone?

I just had an Alpine CD9811 HU installed by a pro audio shop and my cell phone causes a real nasty buzzing sound everytime a signal is transmitted or received. The Audio dealer tells me this is normal and theres really nothing that can be done. Its the cell phone problem and not the Alpines.
Anyone else have this problem and what can be done? DO I have to get a new cell phone?

nope..its normal for this to happen right before u hear the cell ring...i just pick up the cell before it rings cause i hear the distortion..

My nextel does it all the time. As long as I keep it on my belt, it's far enough away where it doesnt interfere, but if I put it in a cup holder or something it doesn it when it transmits. I can always tell when my phone is about to ring tho. I can hear a ticking coming from the speakers. It does it to my computer speakers and my house phone too.

i dunno about u..but i dont talk on the phone and listin to the music =) lol but i have never had distortion of my HU while on a cell phone..i could just be far enough away i guess

now my computer monitor is different everywod i say or head makes the screen go stupid lol

This is crazy! Seems I'm not the only one who has this problem. You would think the car stereo makers would include filtering to prevent this.

when its close to the speaker or crossover, it will interfere. my nextel willdo that only if within a 6 inch range.

I have the same HU as you Harken and it does the same thing with my cell phone too. I usually have my phone in the cup holders.

Thats where i keep my phone is the cupholders. most of the time in that little rectangular hole.
there has to be a fix for this. its annoying. Listneing to some nice music and all of the sudden that annoying buzzzzzz.

I had cingular service and it did it to my pioneer headunit.....switched to verizon and went away. Verizon is the best out there!

My Nextel and my Alpine also does this. Did it also with the stock stereo.

My cell phone does that too in all of our cars and my girlfriend's car, but not in my car. I can't hear any type of interferences with my stock radio. I'm guess the reason for that is that the tuner and everything is in the back of the truck. It's great!!!

Nextel does it to me if I have my phone clipped to the visor. I'm used to it.

my stock HU and 6 disc changer sort of has that problem, the radio and cd player aren't affected very much, but the tape operation has the problem pretty badly, It's the only car I've owned or driven that's had that problem

The Delcos that were in my old 6000 and my even older Chevelle, weren't even phased by the cell phone. The 6000 had tuner problems at that, and the 'velle's was called a 20 year old AM/FM shaft mount Delco junkyard refugee.

The buzzing you hear is the HU receiving interference from the phone---you already know that! Same thing used to happen to me, but when I got my Eclipse HU, it actually was built with sheild to block out unwanted interference. Look into modding the slot where your radio sits...I could hold my phone right up to the Eclipse when a call was active and not hear a peep.

New Cell Phone / Same Ole- Same Ole

I went out today and purchased a Sony Erricson phone, also on AT&T service and STILL THE SAME PROBLEM !
My girlfriends Motorola Flip Phone doesnt effect it at all. Well, I'm gonna return the Sonty Erricson phone tomorrow and investigate some more.

You would thing ALPINE might have a fix for this huh?

Any other ideas short of a new cell service provider?

Could try wraping the HU in copper mesh to shield it.
