I brought this up before and thought I would try again with other info.My X will fall on it's face for a second when taking off and turning left. It also will do the same at hi-way speeds turning left fairly sharp. The only other thing is when I start the truck it starts fine first time but if I shut it off,and then try to start it again and turn the key right away it will not start without holding the throttle down. If I get back in and turn the key to on and wait a few seconds it fires right up but revs a little when it starts. Other that that it is a good car. I think it has something to do with the Fuel pump not holding fuel in it when I shut it off. And possibly that is what causes the left turn thing where it looses just enough fuel out of it that left turns it stalls for a second. Of course I am just guessing here. Anyone ever have either one of these problems?

someone recently posted with a similar problem (loose of power while turning). in his case, something had come loose in his fuel tank and it would slide over and block the fuel flow during a turn. i know there's a black plastic baffle thing in the bottom of the fuel tank. i assume that's what had come loose. he posted within the past month or so, so you can probably find his thread pretty easily.

I've got a mate with a boat and outboard motor that would stall on left turns then run like ****.
If you started it up again about a half an hour later it would run fine until the next left turn.

It was a loose plate in the battery.

Your problem is more likely to be the TSB mentioned above.

If you mean something inside the battery itself I would be interested in knowing what make and model the battery was. That is interesting that a battery could do that.

Have you tried cleaning the MAF? Takes 10 seconds and has been known to cause weird problems like this. Cousin's Volvo would stall around right hand turns, it was the MAF.

Yes I have cleaned it and the IAC. I use a very good contact cleaner. It is used by musicians to clean pickup's on guitars.
I have used it on my MAF on my Jetta Diesel with good results also.

It was one of the plates inside the battery that could move causing a short seriously reducing the voltage output..
I have no idea what brand it was only that it was a marine battery.
You probably wouldn't be familiar with the brand anyway seeing as though it was in Australia.

I have that same problem in my 2000 ex with 4.0sohc. it has only shut off twice, but has stumbled several times. always turning left. Strange goblin under my hood to!

I had the same problem when I bought my X. There was a TBS out that called for a re-flash of the PCM. Never had a problem since.

So you had to pay for the Flash. How much did that cost you?

Do you have to take it to a dealer to reflash it, or is that something a good repair shop can do? I wont let my wife or kids drive mine in the event it shuts down turning left.

I had a similar problem. Had a bunch of things replaced and eventually after I got the fuel pump replaced, that seemed to have fixed the problem.

HESITATION ON ACCELERATION OR TURNING - LACK OF FUEL PRESSURE - EXPLORER/MOUNTAINEER VEHICLES BUILT THROUGH 8/15/2000 AND EXPEDITION/NAVIGATOR VEHICLES BUILT THROUGH 6/30/2000
Publication Date: SEPTEMBER 21, 2000

FORD:

1997-2001 EXPLORER
LINCOLN:
1998-2000 NAVIGATOR
MERCURY:

ISSUE:

A hesitation on acceleration or while turning may be felt on some vehicles. This may be caused by fuel pump cavitation due to fuel sloshing away from the filter sock in the fuel tank reservoir.
ACTION:

To service, check fuel pressure. Check all fuel pump related electrical circuits. If a fuel pressure concern is verified, refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE

Attempt to verify if fuel pressure drops during the event.
If a fuel pressure drop is verified, check all fuel pump related electrical wiring, connections and related systems.
If all checks OK, replace the fuel pump/sender assembly with a revised fuel pump/sender assembly. Refer to the parts listing for application.
Refer to the appropriate model year Workshop Manual, Section 310-01, for removal and installation instructions.

I didn't pay anything for the flash, it was done under warranty. Has something to do with the way the PCM reads the variables between the PS pump pressure and the fuel system. That was along time ago when I first bought it though.

Just for cauz I had it, I changed out the relay. mine will shut off on a full tank or half full. I don't think I have that baffle problem but that makes sense. No problems this week but I will try to make the problem happen on the weekend. I really don't buy into the relay being the problem, but I have seen stranger things! crazy crazy mojo under hoods!

Found a post by streetrod 2000 on idle adjustment. Read that. I didn't do all that stuff but for kicks I did unhook the negative side of the battery and turn on the light switch for three min. Drove two miles to let every thing reset itself. Got back in yard-field and tried my best to make it shut off.Every thing worked fine! Might be on to something!

Just an update, it will still stumble sometimes when turning left. I am thinking pump. I will say that unhooking the battery and turning the light switch on for 3mins, made my truck run much better.

I went out and did the battery trick also. Didn't make a difference for mine. I figure i wont do anything until the truck just quits on me. I don't drive it every day and only use it for fishing anyway. It is mainly my Ice fishing vehicle. I will use it to tow my ATV's up the mountain for Summer fishing though.

Lefty, were gonna get to the bottom of this even if we have to bight the bullet and drop our tank and put that pump in like Rick said. But damn if it aint fun trying all this other cheep-free stuff! And we are learning a lot in the process!
