Anyone have any ideas why my fan will not shut off? This is on a 98 OHV. I changed the thermo about a month ago, has enough coolant. Doesn't seem to get HOT temp gauge runs about in the middle. I have tried to reset the computer, and nothing seems to help. Anyone out there have any ideas?

Thanks

Anyone????

What do you mean by shut off? Completely stop while the engine is running? I don't think it is supposed to stop while the engine is running. Its not electric, it's clutch driven. Maybe look at the clutch

Fan?

I had the same tought over my 9`4, the clutch is not going to release ever completely, the fan is always turning but when the liquid in the fan clutch get hot the fan turn's faster. If you want it to stop you have to change to electric fan. Hope this help.

You people read one thing into his message, I read something slightly different. I read it to mean that he has the automatic heater control and it doesn't blow hot air out the vents. Since it never gets to the set temperature, the heater fan never shuts off. His engine temperature is running about normal, but the heater is not. If this is what he is talking about then it may be his heater blend door stuck closed. COMMOCOZY see how hard it is to try and diagnose a problem with such little information? Are you referring to the heater fan or the radiator fan? As others have said, the radiator fan will not shut off completely until the engine isn't turning unless it is electric.

I had thought he meant the engine fan also :) Being as I have an older Explorer without all the little auto-electo-goodies and didn't even think about the interior heater fan stuff until Robert brought it up. You'll definitely have to give a bit more info next time about the prob. Hope you find the problem.

Sorry guys it is the engine fan.....
