Had faulty mirrors on my 2002 Sport Trac. Reading the various posts, seems its a VERY common fault with these vehicles, since their were numerous posts. All posts suggested the switch was the problem. I checked some of the online used auto parts salvage yards, and the best price I got was $65.00. I checked Ebay, and as luck would have it, found one and bought it for $9.99. Took about 5 minutes to install the new switch, and now all is well with the mirrors. Just felt obligated to post the results since I received the help I needed at this site. My symtoms were the same as all I read here, both mirrors would only move in two directions, instead of 4. The install was very simple, and did not involve the wiring harness, just the switch. Hope this helps with any future mirror problems. Thanks. Keith Hodges.

in the 02 ST im testing, both side mirrors seem to be disengaged or something, you have to move them manually to adjust them, a little nuance, but Im checking to find out what happened.

Good to hear you found a cost effective solution to your problem. Thanks for sharing.

the side view mirror in my 02 ST are now working (yahoo!), I took the truck to my mechanic and all he did was check the switch and found that the connections were all coroded, so a simple cleanig was all that was needed, it cost me no more than P300 or $6. sweet.:thumbsup:

I read quite a few posts regarding the faulty mirrors. Most seemed to think they were either very expensive, and a lenghthy repair job. That may be the case for some, but, for some its a very easy fix. In your case, I'd be wondering why they were so corroded in the first place. Maybe the window was left down in the rain, who knows, but would be worth a little investigation to prevent it happening again. Glad you got it back to normal. Keith

its probably because of the fact that its very humid here in the Philippines, but my mechanic told me that they were so corroded to the point that there was no more contact between the switch and the wires. yep, it was an easy fix, Im lucky also because my mechanic is a straight up guy, I mean, h could have easily charged me a bundle for an easy job, but he didnt, so kudoz to him.

Philippines-------humid, yep, that would do it. Didn't know you were there. And I agree with you about your mechanic. I've become so distrustful of most of them, I've done everything myself on my 5 vehicles. 7 if you count the two out waiting for me to get to them. But with only 2 drivers in the house, its not like we need them. I only hope to find someone as trustworthy when the day comes that I'm over my head on repairs. Might be a good idea to check the other switches, if one was bad, the others might not be far behind. With 2 Jaguars I'm well versed at cleaning electrical connections.
