Sorry for beating this to death but this Chiltons book I borrowed is not worth the tree that was sacrificed for the paper. It covers '83-'94 BroncoIIs and Explorers.

The schematics are in this book for my '91 but the color coding of the wires don't match anything I'm looking at.

OK; Passenger side fender well; 3 relays under the fuse box

Closest to Firewall is a Green Relay. is that for the Fuel Pump?

Middle Relay, Brown is this the EEC relay? Whatever that is , it's in the book.

The third Relay , closest to the front of the truck is Black, I have no idea what that is for.. Is that really The Inertia Switch?? That's the only thing that it looks close to being by the Schematic I have.

If it's not the Inertia Switch, Where is it located? I would like to jump it out as I trouble shoot an intermittent no start issue.

Thanks

I don't have my manual around, but if the inertia switch is the same as the fuel cutoff switch, it's inside the cab.

Look underneath the carpeting on the passenger side, right around the tranny 'hump'. You'll see a little device with a button that pushes in.

If the red line is showing, I'm pretty sure that means the fuel flow is cut off, so push the button back in. That should start the flow again. Pulling/prying it up will stop the flow, for future reference.

I had to do this to change my fuel filter.

If this isn't what you're referring to, then my apologies.

Hopefully someone else can chime in.

That answered one question . Thanks. Now I really don't know what that third relay/switch is under the Fuses.

If memory serves, I believe there is also an "A/C WOT" relay under there.

I guess that would depend on wether you have A/C or not though..........

yes the green = fuel
brown = EEC power

amd the black on is indeed the A/C WOT (wide open throttle) cutoff relay.

The inertia switch has 2 wires, simply jump then and this should power the fuel pump, assuming the computer is sending a signal to the relay and the pump wiring checks out.

Follow up question PLEASE

Thanks you very much for the answers.

Now the last question; Are they all the same relay?

Aside from the color, they look the same and the mating ends are the same.

This is good stuff, thanks again.

I believe they have a model number on the bottom of them, and I think they are the same. Just check that the number is the same, and they can be swapped.

The number are different BUT I think it might be because they are different colors.

there are 2 types of relay, 4 prong and 5 prong.

the 5 prong basically has 1 more switched terminal then a 4 prong.

If you were to go to ford to buy a relay, they will sell you the same 5 prong relay no matter what you are replacing.

You can plug a 5 prong into a 4 prong relay spot and it will work fine.

Thanks everybody!

I bought a Relay and switched it out last night. I noticed the Three original Ford Relays also have a Keying bump in the plastic but the new one is large enough to straddle over that 'key'. So yes you can in fact use this relay for all three spots.

Thanks everyone.
