98 Buick Regal GS
Geee... I never thought I would be buying an SUV but yesterday one of my buddies and I struck up a deal. In 3 weeks he will get my Modded 98 Buick Regal GS, and I will get his 95 Explorer EB. Why am I doing this? Well, I am moving to South Carolina in August and I need a car that will carry (or tow) all my crap down (mostly some furniture and a motorcycle). But I have a few questions hat I need answered about the car... errr... truck... glorified station wagon?

First off, the X currently had a bad motor. The head gasket blew on it, coolant in the oil, oil in the coolant. Made for one big overheated siezed up expensive paperweight. He is going to have to entire motor replaced... but... One of his buddies has a 2001 Explorer that was wrecked in the back. He can get the motor from it for about $600 but I know the 95 has an OHV motor and the 2001 had an OHC motor... will the 01 motor work in the 95?? If it will, what else will it need from the 01? tranny? computer?

The X has 125,000 miles on it also. The tranny was replaced by the 1st owner at 65K with a new unit, but other than the tranny and general maintance, nothing else was touched. What should I look out for?

Is there anuthing else I should know about the car? I have been searching through the forums for the past few days and found a lot of useful info. Thanks.

-Matt

Ahhh first of all Matt welcome to the board. If im not mistaking the sohc motor is a pos. Dean would just be better off getting a ohv replacement. If you do decide to do the sohc it will need a different ecu. Also deans truck had 4wd auto and the newer ones have the AWD. Which means you would have to find an ecu for the 4wd auto system that will work with the sohc motor.

Don't even try to do it. Just get another OHV. I've explained what needs to be done in the past but don't feel like saying it again. Search if you want more info on the swap. To my knowledge, no one has yet swapped a SOHC into an explorer that has originally had the OHV.

Take a good look at the front suspension. Pretty much every part up there is a POS and is prone to failure.

And on a side note, my friend has a 99 Regal GS that I have helped him mod. He seems to think he is sitting at about 300 horses at the flywheel now. The car is ridicuously fast. The fastest one I've ever ridden in, in fact. Be ready for a big change in power that's all I have to say :D

Does your friend know about www.regalgs.org? Awsome site for Supercharged Regal owners.

BTW, Mike and Jason... thanks for the responses... I'll have to get in touch with Dean now to tell him to find an OHV motor.

Matt I don't know what you are trying to do with the truck, but if you want we could pretty easily throw a 302 (or bigger) engine in there :D You would need engine, ecu, tranny, driveshaft, x-fer case.

LMAO... All I am doing with it is hooking a U-Haul trailer to the back, throwing crap in the truck, then heading down to South Carolina with it. One I get there the fun will begin (TT, shackles, AAL, wheels, tires, etc) :bounce:

....on second thought... maybe I'll do most of that before I move. Mike... do you know anyone in CT that has a set of the swirl type stock alloy wheels (97+ sport wheels I believe)? The EB has the cheap ass chromed steel wheels on it :(

Hey bro if you really want to to the TT, AAL, Shackles let me know I just did them on my truck. As for the wheels check out this board, you can always find someone selling them cheap (like $200)
