Finally another good whoops to add to my belt....

God Damn Derrick! I am dumb founded. I thought Rick was the only guy I knew that could break **** no body else breaks. You da man on that one. Les Schwab deserves to be sued. My insurance company sued them once for not tightening my lug nut properly. (Another story).

Anyway, you dumb ass......there you go breaking your truck. I just bought a new fancy shop and have that D44 sitting here waiting for your SAS and you go do this..... :banghead: Got any friends with a tow truck? Would be so much easier for your truck to be here.....

Oh believe me Kent.........I'd love my truck to be there instead of here. I'm tryin to get ahold of my cousin cause hes got a trailer but I'm not having very good luck with it. I have no idea how we are goin to work this man. It might be drivable...if I use ALOT of duct tape. :) I don't know guy.....I'll PM ya about this stuff.

So know that we are back at step one...........What the hell broke????

I'm with Jamie, looks like the rotor broke. I'd take the rotor to Les Sucks and say, "WTF mate?"

Ah man........I hate dealin with those freaks. Lots and lots of BS in that place.

I'm not an expert, but isn't there a nut on the end of the axle, which is how it attaches to the hub?

Take off the centercap to your wheel and I would think something will fall out in your hands. From what I can see in the pictures, it looks like the end of the bearing, right after the grooved part was sheered off.

I would say the rotor broke too, the piece in between the wheelbearings should still be attached to the rotor. right?

This is wild.

The locknuts are still there along with the bearings and races on the spindle.

My 2cents are the rotor insides gave away on you, and away it went.

wow...thats all i gotta say

Well I guess I still have when it comes to screwin up my truck. :)

I guess we'll all agree that it was the rotor. Not sure theres really much I can do about it. I don't really care though. Now my girlfriend HAS to let me do the SAS now. :)

please elaborate. OEM Rotors? OEM, as in you bought them from ford, or as in the originals? Try this on for size:

Year of Recall: '98
Type of Report: Equipment

Equipment Description: Brake rotors for use on Ford and Mazda trucks. Cracked castings caused cracks to appear on the outer diameter of the rotor hat or around the stud hole.

Loss of braking can result.

Aimco will reimburse consumers/installers for the cost of replacement rotors and installation. Consumers are requested to return to the location where the rotors were originally purchased/installed for replacement.

Owner notification is expected to begin during April 1998. Owners who do not receive the free rotors within a reasonable time should contact Aimco at 1-800-264-3414. Also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Auto Safety Hotline at 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).

I don't know if this will really apply, but it makes you wonder. Glad you are okay! Man, that is insane! :banghead:

The crack shown is probably why the rotor came off the crack caused the rotor to deform and release its hold on the bearings and the snap ring could not hold the a. I would have the rotor x-rayed to see why it failed. there is a company called Failure Analysis who looks into catastrophic failures.

The other possibility is that the rubber in your caliper retainers failed and the caliper wedged the wheel which deformed the rotor and released the bearings.

Same thing happened to me when I had my B2 a couple years back.. Replaced the rotors and didn't use high enough temp grease in the bearings.. Bearings failed. While driving I first noticed I had no brakes when I tried to stop so I looke dout my window and saw the drivers side front tire wobbling.. Slowed it down into a 7-11 parking lot where I stopped and jacked the truck up. Once weight came off the front of the tire it fell, only holding it on there was the weight and the brake lines..

Funny thing though was when I called for a tow truck I told them I needed a flat bed, each company asked what I had and each one commented that they could tow it by the front wheels.. Each time I had to explain "No I need a dolly cause the front wheel fell off." Got the wheel to hold on while we were putting it on the truck and the trip home..

All I gots to say is that was one point with that truck that scared me.. Did many more but hey what else are you supposed to do when your 18 and have a 4X...
