Finally Ordered them! General lighting mod thread.

So instead of doing multiple threads about my lighting upgrades, I am just doing them all here. So I got my new License Plate light covers, and LEDs! I also made a stop to Harbor Freight, and got a few Goodies for my light bar, and some of those $7 lights I talked about above.

Pictures:

LEDs $6.99 of Ebay, Lights I want to say where $4 off of Rock Auto

Close up of the LED, I wasn't sure how much room was in the light housing so I got the smallest one.

Harbor Freight Lights, $6.99 Each... Similar to the HID look a likes that are 5 times the price.

Like I said, alot of lighting upgrade to my Explorer this year, also Still waiting on the head lights, they at least arrived into IL today, so I will either have them tomorrow, or Monday.

How you like those "HID" bulbs.
I have a set and I think they're crap.

Definitely want a picture of just the headlights on with the black housing and those bulbs!

No worries, there will be many pictures. :D

Put those on my ST

I remember see that picture a while ago, and that is what made me want to do a light bar.

Not sure yet, they had a comparison at Autozone when I was bulb shopping last year, and they seemed to be more expensive, with less light output. but like I said these ones are only $7 so atleast I can say I tried them.

I finally did something!

I put in some LED 194 Bulbs for my License Plate Lights, plus I put on the new chrome covers, which look a lot better!

Pictures:

First, Before Pictures...

Daytime Before, notice the black light covers, when I got the truck I had one chrome one, and it was nearly falling out, this was my temporary fix.

The comparison picture really shows how much better light output there is.

Also More good news, I got my Headlights on Friday, but I have been working too much, and it is too cold to do too much... So hopefully next week during my spring break it will be warm enough to install them.

looks really nice man, good pics

Those plate lights are sweet!
I got a set of the blacked out headlights on mine and I love the look of them (Thanks to a member here that gave me an awesome deal on them :D)
I added a bit of flare to them after I got them.

Good News Everybody! I had enough time to unpack the lights to check out the condition. They where packed awesome! I even snapped some pictures!

This is where the box has been sitting since Friday...But now it was time to open!

The crazy awesome pack job!

The actual headlight, it came with a bulb installed, didn't know that, and it was held in with 3 screws, which were half way covered up with the plastic housing, so I am really not sure how to remove the bulbs...

how they would look on the truck, if it was warm enough to install them that is.

The quality of these bad boys was actually surprising, Nice and heavy! If anybody knows how to replace the bulb without breaking the housing let me know, I can take pictures about what I am talking about, if anybody need to.

The screws are there for stops where you turn the bulb. The bulb will twist out like in the standard housing.

Well good thing I am retarded. After messing with it for a little bit I figured out how it worked. If forgot how the factory light mounted in, once I remembered I spun the whole thing and it was free.

Sorry, I meant to say the bulb retainer will twist out

Yea, I remembered that there was a retainer, I dropped it when I replaced the bulbs last in my truck.

So? When does the Projector retrofit thread start?

So? When does the Projector retrofit thread start?

Probably not a for a little while at least. I still need projectors, a good HID kit, and a Dremel... So I need to start researching, and figure out what I want. Money as well as time plays a factor as well. Since it is not something I really need to do, it is not too high on my list at the moment, although I am always thinking about it.

These look great. Are the LED bulbs simply plug and play without any wiring involved? Would you be able to link me to them on eBay?

Search Ebay For "Smd194 Led" That Will Give You What You Are Looking For.

Yea, simply plug and play, I made sure to search for 12 volt LEDs, only thing you need to worry about is polarity, since LEDs are diodes... here is the exact link to the ones I bought.

LED EBAY Bulbs

Update? Waiting to order mine pending this thread.

Sorry man, it is still too crappy out to install them. I am honestly getting tired staring at them in the box. Hopefully in a week or two. Spring time is sure taking its time up here in IL.

Great looking Explorer, Those are the same headlights I used for my projector retrofit. Thinking of getting another set of those clear corners to maybe do a mod with amber LED strip or panel on the inside of all 3 sections of the corners.

I was considering getting some LED replacement bulbs for the marker lights, both front and rear. but I believe I would have to get some sort of resistor setup so that they don't flash so rapidly. I was also considering getting some clear, with chrome reflector headlight housing so that I can use them to get the most light output, and then use the blackout ones for the retrofit. I would just keep the blacked out marker lights on until the retrofit was done.
