Firestone replacement list... anyone?

Does anybody have a copy of or a link to the current list of approved Firestone replacement tires? I'm getting new ones this week, but I want something decent (i.e. NOT Goodyear Wrangler RTS's which my dealer and Belle Tire are both pushing).

The tires are the 255/70R16s... I'd like something that will handle decent in the wet and slick stuff (i.e. NOT the RTS's)... That's one thing I DID like about the Wildernesses... they hooked up quite well in almost all conditions.

Well, just pulled my Cooper DISCOVER S/T's (winter sneakers) off Friday and put my new RT/S's on. Personally, I was also sceptical about the performance of the RT/S's. I ended up choosing them as they the only tire that had a tread pattern similar to that of the Wilderness AT. On my way to work tonight, it was raining with some hail and icy patches. The RT/S's performed very well. They also rode very smooth for me. I was leaning towards the Michilins (wear rating of 440). However, they are a harder compounded tire than the RT/S (wear rating of 340). This leads to a harsher ride. Since I work for a FORD Dealership, the opportunity to drive variouse vehicle/tire/weather combinations, I found the RT/S to be the best for me. Also, a softer compounded tire will grip wet and dry pavement better than a harder one.

I Just don't like the way they gripped (or didn't) for the entire 50k on my F-150. With the ATS's on it, even with the bigger motor, they always hook up well. The RTSs I have on my Ranger right now came with the truck and had less than 5000 miles on them, so I couldn't justify getting rid of them. I'd Love to have the Wrangler ATS's on it, though... gotta call Belle Tire again... they weren't sure of the exact tires that were approved for it...

I know Michelin Cross Terrain were on the list. I have them and i love them. They ride nicer then the wilderness AT and get better wet traction. i would get any Michelin tire over those RT/S. good luck

ABout those Wrangler AT/S...I was going to get those also, but they arn;t approved. (also I wanted the P265/70R16 and the AT/S didn;t come in that size) i wanted the AT/S for snow driving, but my Michelins suprised me. They don;t look too agressive, but they do awesome both on and off road. The wider size is nice also...no rubbing and better flotation in sand.

Which Michelins, specifically?

I have cross terrains. The LTX M/S is very similar. there are also models that people have been very happy with. Basically if it says Michelin on it i don;t think you can go wrong...

Well, I ended up going with the Michelin LTX M+S's... initial impression is that they hook up even better than the Firestones for at least straight line acceleration on dry pavement and loose gravel. Once I get the brakes finished this Friday, I'll be good to go!

i'm glad to hear you like the michelin. I find they hook up much better in rain also. Snow offeres good tracton also....may not be best for mudding, but oh well...they are a great tire.
